Best GPS: old topc with a new twist

Friend of mine is into cycling , he showed me a Garmin EDGE-200 GPS-Enabled Cycling Computer. It is not much bigger than the one which is sold at Keithbradleyboats: http://www.keithbradleyboats.com/wor...012/09/gps.jpg
Anyone used it ? Just curious. At $130 a pop, it is considerably more expensive. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/into...prod90675.html
Since I know nothing about all the terms used for cycling, it measures average speed, is that something usable or unusable in our world of FE?
I have been using the one from Keith's site, but I am wondering how long the battery will last, it has an internal lithium battery that I haven't seen any spare ones on the market yet. My unit( over two years old) won't hold the charge and it has to be charged before every use.

Why not plug your current GPS into the receiver to power it? Costs a lot less than a new GPS. I know nothing about the EDGE, I use a Garmin Foretrex 201 which gives me Max Speed, Average Speed, Distance Traveled, etc.

Thanks for the suggestion, didn't think about that, but this thing charges via a Mini-USB plug, I won't know how to make an adapter though.
It's working now so long as I remember to charge before every run. I have a Garmin e-Trex, it's just that the size gets in the way occasionally.

I've got the Garmin Foretrex 101 and it's perfect for what we need smaller than a credit card and lite. Has Max spd average spd. and all that.

This is in the description of the GPS on Keith's site:

This is one of the first purpose-built RC GPS units....The unit runs off of an internal Lithium battery for cordless operation, but also has a servo wire port, so you can plug it into your RX if you run the battery dead and forget to charge it.

            Fluid,
Let me express my GRATITUDE to you this way:
I came to this country when I was 17 years old, never had a Donut before, one day my Grand Uncle gave me a box, upon seeing my befuddled expression, the old man said: " young man, keep your eye upon the Donut, not the Hole!"
So it was with this spirit that I refused to see and recognize that little opening next to the switch!
Never have I in my 50 years of living felt THIS ridiculous and stupid at the SAME TIME!

Hi Landauer. There is a pretty cool gps app I've been using designed specifically for cyclists, called Strava. It tracks my rides via GPS, & gives me eta, speed, street map overlay, distance traveled etc. It's actually kinda look. I ride an 07'carbonfibre, Klein Mantra race ($3k). I don't know everything about the app as of yet, but it seems to work pretty good..........

This is very small and does everything you will ever need at a great price. I have been using this for about a year now. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Holux-Gr-245...item4175787b86

                      Hi,

Does this do MPH too or just Kilometers? Thanks!

It will do both miles or kilometres. Actually a powerful unit and waterproof. Charges via mini USB. I was pretty impressed when I got it and still am. This should give you a good idea of how small it is. This is a 24" tunnel hull and the esc is a Turnigy 180.

Hiya Landauer, thanks, I love my Klein, its the sikkest MTB I've had as of yet. Here's the review http://www.dirtragmag.com/reviews/klein-mantra-race

The strava app is for android & available at the Google play store. I have it on my huwai smart phone & my Asus tablet, check it out...
