    motor connections

    got my 9xl today... thanks steven for the prompt service, outstanding as usual... going to drop the motor in my sv27... thing is that the longer length of the can makes the wiring to the esc impossible without lengthening the wires... question is how is the best method to do this ??? should i solder wire to wire ?? i have some left over deans 12g wire... would this work ?? how about just joining a couple of 3.5mm bullet connectors... i figure this would be easy, but it would most likely make more resistance...

    any suggestions for the newb ???

    cheers

    If you solder properly and use 6mm bullets it will not be a problem. With the safety loop on my boats there is 3 conectors on the positive side and the boats perform excellent.

      Oz,

      are you going to be using the stock SV speedo? It seems to me that 6mm bullets is way over kill. If your hull operates with out water penetrating you could always try and move the speedo outside of the radio box.

        yep, stock ESC.. wanna try to use the radio box for the meantime... any probs using another set of M / F 3.5mm bullets to complete the connection ??

        will deans 12g wire do the trick... the wire coming from the motor is honkin 8g or so... beefy for sure...

          I use 3.5mm bullets on mine,they work great. Also, I have my controller mounted on top of the radio box lid. The controller is waterproof so it does not need to be inside the box.

            Another set of M/F 3.5 mm connectors will not hurt a thing in a sport setup. If you are going for maximum speed such as SAWs or circuit racing, the tiny extra resistance may mean that 1% difference.

              Oz, I do not think the standard SV27 ESC (50 amp rating I believe) is capable of handling the amps that a 9XL will produce. You should replace the stock ESC.....,my 2 cents

                Douggie;

                Just an FYI;
                I've been using that setup on one of my boats going on 3 years now (1/12th Hydro) and in a SV for this season. The controller is always the coolest part of the setup. Most of the time running the standard SV 3 bladed prop. It is rated a 45 Amps so as long as the prop selections are monitored, he should have no problems. Both boats run on 4S LiPos. Just make sure to time the runs, see how much charge you batteries take afterwards as it has no cuttoff for
                LiPos.

                You are right Douggie, it sounds like it shouldn't work, but its a sweet setup.
