I am building a Dumas pt109 wood kit from the early 70s I'm reaching the point of the build where it is time to think of a drive system brushless/lipo not Much thought there but now what I'm thinking dual motors and drive systems but what motors what drives I'm kinda lost here guys I'm going to reinforce the hull with fiberglass and stringers I can make the stringers out of 3/8 marine plywood or hard wood so if you have ideas suggestions or questions let it fly

Which PT-109, 33" or 48"? I built the 33" version in the 1960s with a single brushed motor and 6V lead battery. Top speed was around 3 mph, perfect for scale - but not so much fun today. What speed are you looking for?
The Dumas kits were very heavy, so don't go overboard with hull reinforcement. The hull will be plenty strong without heavy 'glass and extra wood - electric systems today are light and vibration-free. The props will be submerged, so you will not be able to use the same size props that surface drives will run.
Option 1 - use two AQ or PB 1500 Kv RTR motors and ESCs in the 33" hull. Set them up with 3/16" shafts and counter-rotating x442 L+R props to start, running on the same 4S battery pack. This will get you speeds near 30, which may be too much for the old girl. It is a narrow scale hull after all.
Option #2 - Use a single motor, probably the better option for a new FE boater with more options. A Leopard 4074/1050 motor with a Seaking 180 controller, props from x440 to x445 should give plenty of performance for the hull with speeds in the 20s. Way over scale speed - but fast enough to be fun.
When building the boat pay attention to waterproofing the hatch. The best way is to use tape, so when mounting the torpedoes etc. leave room to put on the tape. You 'can' hold the hatch down with a few screws - that's what I did years ago but my boat had zero chance of flipping. If it flips it will take on a lot of water, and you'll have to install plenty of flotation. With the rudder right behind the prop you will want to use minimal rudder endpoints or expect to overcontrol the boat.ERROR 403 - This is not the page you are looking for

Heya Bro, I still think traxxas steerable out drives would rock that thing. Traxxas has them on the supervee & villain mono"s. Their pretty cheap & available anywhere. If Make-a-wake is active on the board, maybe he's got some drive setups laying around for sale ???_____Comment
