We need to rethink the RTR Class in my district. All we run is the Nitro Production RTR class. They are only run at a few races because participation is weak. Plus it seems half the time the motors die while in the mill. This has to be frustrating for the racers. Especially our younger ones. So I'm wonder who us running RTR Class around the country? Do you allow any production boat, similar types or just pick one model? Do you allow any mods? The purpose of the class being to attract new boaters and having a place for the kids to run. Thanks.
Who's Racing RTR's??

We often run P Limited Offshore class on the oval. Most of the boats are RTRs with Limited motors. That lets the Impulse, Revolt, Miss Geico and Mötley Crew owners race their RTRs. The only problem at larger races is a limited number of total FE classes allowed.

The D19 SCSTA opened the door for a P-Ltd Cat class at their events last year and this year. It was great. While the P-Ltd rules allow mods to everything but the motor (and hence make this not in the spirit of a true RtR) I'm not convinced that all the modding/blueprinting done made big enough differences to make it worthwhile. Running box-stock boats would be just as satisfying without all the messing with stuff in my opinion. Of course agreeing on any (if any at all) little tweaks opens up a pandora's box of controversy - we've all seen this. Still, it can be done.
I was chatting with Wilmer yesterday (he has access to some nice RtR's) about one-design racing. I'm all for it.
Talk has always been how Ltd classes work to attract. Here's some actual pudding proof : P-Ltd Cat has made one of our sport running members into an avid racer this year, and another crossover gas member is scouting for a boat to race P-Ltd Cat next season. It's WORKING

In District 1, we are running a bone stock Motley Crew class. We have all ages running the class from kids to Seniors.
The best part is they can switch the prop and batteries and run it in LSO and P-Offshore.
Three classes for one boat is quite a deal.
Some guys bring theirs just to let other people try it out.
My best friend races mine. He has been racing gas for the last three years with little success.
The extra time racing has really helped him improve and is now going to get a revolt, another boat that can race in multiple classes.
Thanks,

We run P Limited offshore, P Limited sport, P limited mono, and a bone stock SV27r class.
PLO, PLS, and PLM all have RTR's running. Those are doing quite well. This last race was the first time the Revolt was dethroned as the clear leader in the class. Took me almost a whole season to catch him with a TFL.
The SV27 class is a hoot too just because of the parity. Same everything but the drivers. Although, some boats are clearly faster. Likely comes down to prep and attention to details that matter.
We've also been running P limited cats this summer unofficially (no trophies) and nobody has been able to find an aftermarket cat that was better than the Motley or Mystic. They just work. Mystic is a super easy driver. You have to stay on the pins though because the Motley seems to have the edge in speed. The rougher the water the closer those two boats get to each other. At least on our puddle that's been the case.Noisy personComment
