GPS interference and Carbon Fiber hulls

    Gents,

I am running a CF Daytona and use a Hobbyking (voltron) GPS data logger. The data logger has given me top speed readout from 30 to 58 mph at WOT, all in the same conditions. To compare, my traxxas Spartan is fairly consistent with the same unit, roughly 48-53 mph. When I turn on the GPS data logger unit I make sure I get the max signal before putting on the hatch. Do you guys think the carbon fiber hull and hatch are creating interference with the GPS?

Definitely. GPS will not be of any accurate, reliable readings if it has to pass through carbon. Put it in a ziplock Baggie or something waterproof and secure to top deck. Tape, duct tape, something that will withstand a crash. And keep in mind if it does become detached will it float or be compromised by water.

Yeah that's what I thought. I'll have to figure out how to run the servo wire outside to the top deck since the hatch is pretty well sealed. I want to get an accurate idea of my speeds, but the CF hull isn't helping!

I just use a little 2s battery connected to the GPS. Then I place it into a little vinyl bag folded once then taped. Like a dry bag for water sports. Then just duct tape or something to hull.
