The Pearl is in Peril!!!! Trouble with PT Supersport 40

Hi everyone. I've been running this boat in Q sport. On calm water it is absolutely planted, runs smooth and predictable....couldn't ask for anything better actually. However, as soon as it hits race water, it develops a mild case of the UL-1's. Starts wobbling left and right.

Up until this point, I've run the batts in the center. I am considering spreading them out.....into the sponsons. In theory it seems like it would help stabilize it and lower the roll frequency, but would I like to hear some opinions and/or experience of others. Thanks!

Yep, I certainly could. Currently there is no additional weight up there.

          Pete,

I know that you have been messing turn fins, was it doing it before you put on current fin? Do you think the fin is causing some lifting?

          Later,
          Mike

Wow. This multi quote feature is nice..... I guess I'm a little slow on the uptake.

I was thinking lead in the pool noodles up front, secured with tywraps. That's how I typically do it with the other boats. However, if I put the batts up in the sponsons, that may serve the same purpose.

Yep, it's been doing it all along. I tried no-fin. Same result. Still get the side to side rock. It was fun power sliding around the pond though.

Tried an air dam with Velcro. Planted the nose, but was still rockin side to side when it hit some chop.

I've watched a lot of videos of FE PT's and most have the high frequency rock. Again, when I'm in calm water, or out in front (a rare occurrence), it's fine. If all the weight of the boat is on the centerline, doesn't it make it more susceptible to this?? I keep going back to that tight rope walker analogy. They have long poles for balance to get weight further to the outside for stability. I'm sure there's an optimal position for the weight.

Have you blueprinted the ride surfaces?
Have you tried lowering the strut?
Do you have any positive in the strut?

Well, is getting the batteries up there a pita?
I also stick weights in pool noodles. Then to keep the weights in a specific location, I stuff bubble wrap in there. It's easy removable weight.

Apologies beforehand for interrupting the thread: my BBY Zhephyer does this until it reaches beyond 65% throttle, at WOT it is ok.
Question: on hydros, is the strut supposed to have a bit of negative thrust or positive thrust? I know this may depend on the individual boat but what about in general?
Too many boats, not enough time...

Randy may be able to put you right on a "fix" for that issue.
IME Sport hydros in general like the strut level or with a bit of negative in them.
