    Genesis power question

I'm not new to RC (had nitro trucks for many years) but I'm pretty new to marine RC. I found a Traxxas Villain on craigslist a few months ago and then ended up getting a Spartan and really like it. I am looking into getting a Genesis from Hobbyking this winter and re-powering it. Since I am new to adding a set up to an otherwise bare hull I was considering getting the Leopard/Seaking combo available here http://offshoreelectrics.com/proddet...ose-4082-combo. My plan is to get the one recommended for the Spartan (1600Kv 180 amp ESC). I appreciate any opinions on this setup, especially if anyone is running it or one similar.
If I use it with this hull should I expect similar or better performance than my Spartan?

Never ran a Spartan but have built some Genesis for customers with this combo and it runs very good BUT some reinforcements are required in the hull.Gill

Can't comment on comparison with the Spartan, but I have the same motor/ESC combo in my Genesis that you are proposing, on 6S, and it runs well. It's quite a popular set up. M445 prop and I'm getting 60mph.

There should also be "room" with this set up for trying a bigger pitch, but I would start with 445. It may take you a while to get the boat nicely balanced as regards prop shaft height/angle, and COG. Chances are strut height and angle won't be optimum as delivered from HobbyKing.

As grsboats mentioned, you should consider doing some additional carbon fibe reinforcing of the hull. The motor mounts as supplied are quite weakly attached. These need to be secured better with more glass, or better still also add some extra carbon fibre matt on the hull on the area around where the motor mounts, to reinforce the general area.

Also Genesis have been know to split along the seam where the top and bottom sections attach when they hit the water after a blowover. It's a good idea to run a strip of carbon fibre tape along the seam. As coincidence would have it, that is exactly what I am will be doing on mine next weekend. Should have done it 12 months ago, but.........

The results coming back from customers is that the Genesis should be faster than the spartan with that combo.
