    Inrunner vent holes or sealed?

    Gents,

What is normally preferred? I would guess sealed end bells to prevent water from permeating into the motor? but having cooling vents would also help dissipate heat? Regardless, i will run a cooling jacket. I am trying decide on whether to get a vented or sealed leopard 4082? Any advice is appreciated....

Anyone know if the one OSE sells is sealed or vented?

My leo 3674 is vented. My boat is usually dry when I bring it back in

Original BL motors had closed cans - Hacker, Lehner, Aveox. Most modern BL motors have vent holes to augment cooling, but I run both kinds and don't notice much difference. If you have enough water in your hull to flood a vented motor you have more serious problems to attend to than keeping the motor dry.

If that does happen, vented can is better, you can use compressed air to dry out and then spray Corrosion-X, I had a dunking once and had to open the end bell to make sure inside was dry.
Too many boats, not enough time...

Correct you are. Vented endbell motors not only allow heat to escape, but in the event of submersion they can be quickly drained, dried out, and corrosion-x'd to chase out moisture and coat the innards. Routine procedures with OPC tunnels. The closed endbell motors will allow water in - they're not sealed all that well. Getting the water out and flushing/re-coating the innards needs to be done by removing the endbell. The CC/Neu 1515 1Y 2200KV motor uses tiny star-head bolts. Total PIA btw.

Yes, all good points! I am a huge fan of corrosion X. I spray ESC and motors with that stuff even before putting them into service. Vented seems like an easy choice then. Water permeates through just about everything even though it may be "sealed."
