Have electrics, need hull, advice please...

    Hi Guys,

I need to get going on my stalled project and need help (again)

I have a Leopard 4082 1500kv motor and cooling can, along with a Sea King 180amp ESC ready to power whatever I put them in.

The first plan was to put them in a Gancia dei Gancia (like aSuper Hawaii) but I have been told the ABS hull needs alot of strengthening and thats tricky as I cant get to the inside of the hull.

But I just found this secondhand fiberglass version: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1111585662...84.m1423.l2649
Is this going to be a major advantage? I need to know its worth it, as it looks like alot more work to get it going.

Or just get a cheap cat: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/36-RC-R-c-...item27d3f6a2e5

As you may have guessed, I'm not a boating pro, although I have alot of experience building rc car and trucks.

I only wanna zoom from one end of the lake to the other, handling isnt a huge factor.
    So its plan, A, B or C...

    What are your thoughts?

    All input welcome
Still in dry dock... But planning to get wet soon.

Of the three id take the cat. Def stay away from the abs hull. The deep vee might be ok but I didn't see the size and it looks kinda big. The cat is actually a wee bit big for that motor but set up right it should work fine and be pretty quick. You wont be able to run on anything rough though it looks like it rides pretty low

Thanks for the relpy mate. Ok, I'll hang on to the Gancia die Gancia hull and make it a fun boat for my girlfriend.
This motor is too small?! Wasnt expecting that, thought I'd gone over kill. Just looked at the Hobby King Genesis cat (41") and it has a 36 x74, 2075kv motor. The cat hull I posted is 36", is the Genesis a good yardstick to use for length v power?
The deep V in the ebay link is 40" long, I'm kinda leaning towards this at the moment, as it will handle more choppy water and as I live in the UK where the weather sucks that might come in handy lol It does mean a lot more work in building, but I'm not too worried (yet) as I've just finished a 1/6th scale truck that I built from scratch so I dont mind getting stuck in... takes a whilebut I get there haha.

Thanks mate. Had a look round, there are two that catch my eye, the Genesis mentioned above and the Smash Shark.

The second hand deep-V would be a learning curve, as I've never custom built a boat from scratch, but I like the individual touch if you get what I mean.

I have an apparition with a 4074 and it hauls a genesis doesn't corner that well but hauls a 4082 would run a 32-40 inch hull if lightweight

Useful info, thanks mate. I'm thinking stuff this into the deep-V and run a moderate prop on 4s, then go to the lake and wow people... until proper RC boat racers turn up, then leave quietly...

                The 43 Challenger is too big for a 4082 motor.....more suitable for a 4092 or 56 series.Gill

Agghh man.... Nothings going my way right now is it

Bigger motor or smaller hull then. Think I might go smaller hull, as I dont want to push my 180amp ESC hard.

Anyone know of something similar but a touch smaller?

I wonder if I could get a mould taken of my Gancia dei Gancia...????

As another thought, look at the Aeromarine Challenger 31 . In the Uk you can buy them from Jotika. I have 3, 1 with an OPS 21 i.c , one with a 700BB brushed motor and one with a Feigao brushless inrunner. If you email Jotika, they used to make a lightweight version for electric use
