    Motor ESC bullet Connector Hot

    Hi, i have Mean Machine Cat, running leopard 4074 2200kv, dual lipo 4s 5800mah 30c, M445. esc T180, 0 timing.

    all connectors are 6mm

the motor and esc is 40 degrees (104F) but the connectors between the motor and esc reached 80degrees (175F)

i thought it could be bad soldering , but i redid my connectors again but same results.

what do you thing is the cause? do i need to go to 8mm connectors?

4072 2200 is a Y wind motor, you need to set timing to 15 deg. Y wind need higher timing a D wind need lower timing.

Yes up the timing to 11-15 degrees, 30c batteries are on the low side for boats also.

Good information to know. I am getting ready to get my mean machine in the local boat hole, for a shakedown run before i start making changes to it.

Currently she's running a stock ul-1 setup. turnigy 60a esc, 2030kv 50 amp motor, octura m455 prop set level with the sponsons, 2 rev-tec 6000mah 28c bullet pack lipos in series with deans harness on 10awg wire. The rudder is a swing away rudder with h20 pick up, as well as a sponson pickup, twin outlets & water cooled motor mount besides the esc & sleeve.

I also have 2 thunderpower 4800mah 50c packs I could run in parallel, but after I upgrade the esc & go to bullets......

Mean Machines usually need the strut well above the sponsons as HE stated. Start with the bottom of the strut about 3/16" to 1/4" above the sponson bottoms. The ESC is on the small side, that setup can pull nearly 90 amps.

J was thinking 1/4'' if needed, but I don't want to go to high & drop off plane. I am not real concerned with smokin' speed. The closest water hole is about 80 yards long, 45' wide & shaped like a kidney bean. Its 3 blocks away & 20' off the pavement so its real convenient. :)

I remember Fluid giving me that same advice a few years ago on my MM. Made a world of difference.
From memory a 42mm prop was around 3/16 and a little higher for 45mm props.

I change the timing 11.25 and 15 degrees on the weekend, still no good, bullets were too hot to touch, motor, esc and battery were just warm.

How long are these wires between the motor and the ESC? Are the prongs of the male bullet having full contact inside the female bullet plug? ( no pun intended)
You said you redid the solder, which side? sometimes the factory solder job on the motor can be bad too----in case you only checked the ESC side since you suspected your job.
Too many boats, not enough time...

Bad solder, even after you attempted re-soldering...that's my guess. Maybe try a different method/approach to soldering your connectors?

I think 90%+ of the hot connector issues people have are caused by poor soldering. I have personally pulled as much as 350A through 5.5mm connectors and don't have hot connector issues. The resistance is typical of poor soldering more than it is a connector that is too small.
