    Help needed for NEWBIE!

Hi guys, sorry if this post belongs somewhere else, this is my first day in the forums. Anyways, I could use your help.
I have a 44" deep vee hull and am having issues. I am currently running a leopard 4082 1600kv motor on a turnigy 5000mah 6s lipo battery. The esc being used is a seaking 120amp esc. Prop is octura x445. The boat uses 3 cooling lines, 1 off the rudder into the motor jacket, and 2 for the esc off of extra water pickups next to the transom. The boat will run for about 10 minutes at a GENTLE pace, but when I want to run the potential of the system, it goes for about 1.5-2 minutes, rpm slows to a snails pace, rudder twitches out and eventually locks itself to either direction and I lose steering, but am still able to SLOWLY drive the boat in a circle. I had this setup in a 36" cat and it too had the exact same issues. A concerning Point I have is an esc programming issue. I set the esc to 6s, reverse (for when rescuing other boaters when mine is still running) and the timing to 10*. I have noticed though, that my forward/reverse setting never stays once I swap batteries or come back another day. This leads me to believe the esc is forgetting EVERY setting and therefore damaging something. I know the boat will FLY, I have given it full throttle after a small warmup for a test, but soon after it quits. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Your in the right place, welcome aboard! Here is my opinion, but hopefully others will add......
Your entire setup is way underpowered for that size boat, in pretty much every way. Is it really a 44" hull? That motor will draw WAY more than that ESC can handle, and the motor is on the small size for that hull. I ran that motor, prop, battery setup in a 31" hull with a Seaking 180 and an external BEC, and that gets pretty hot. You are either going out on low voltage cutoff, or thermal overload, and/or your BEC isn't supplying enough power to the RX/servo, but I'm surprised it didn't just burn up in the first place.......
If you don't already know, a BEC is "battery eliminator circuit", which lowers the voltage to around 5v to power the receiver/servo/esc, the seakings have been known to be weak in that area, so many run a seperate BEC or a seperate battery for it, but I think that is the least of your problem.
    What hull is this?

Yes way undrepowered, that motor is rated at 2000 watts and probably overrated, and you're running 6s On a 44" hull. Any hull over 40" I would use 8-10S, for 10S use a Kv of 750-900 and 8S 1000-1100 and at least a 180amp speedo.
      We call ourselves the "Q"

I'm 100% sure it's a 44"hull. Is there a hull you would recommend me using? I would like to use the 4082 motor and prop, and was actually going to upgrade to a turnigy 180a or ice 240a esc. Hull options I was looking towards are the proboat miss geico or traxxas spartan. I don't really care about the hull type as I have used both a mono and cat previously in other set-ups. So I guess what I'm really asking is... What hull should I use with either of the previously mentioned esc's, same battery, same motor, and same prop. I do want speed, but I want control (obviously) as well. Just an all around great running boat. All thoughts are appreciated

          Hi.
Post some pictures of the boat and the setup that your are running,
And also any video's of it running would be good to.
How wide is the hull ?
A Pursuit is a nice all around boat,
          Hears mine on 4s with a 4074 1800kv motor and 180a esc pushing a x447/3 prop.

I will post some pictures tonight when I get off work (10 or so). I do not have any videos of it, but I can tell you from experience the boat seems to plane out too "much", it rides along most of the hull instead of the rear/mid section and I don't believe the prop is deep enough (but I could be wrong)
And to answer your question the boat is 9.5 inches wide

If you wish to keep what you already have you are looking at about a 29"- 31" hull and I am also suprised you have not burnt up your existing equipment.

That's probably because I literally "flood" the electronics with water. As you'll see later in the pictures

I also have a PB 36"X 9"1/2"Shockwave modded to fe,
                    With a 4074 2200kv and turnigy 120a esc with 3 added caps on it pushing a x646/3 on 4s2p.
It runs pretty nice on that setup for me.

Your hardware is very low and that would make it run very wet and not get on plan,
Also those connector are a very bad idea.
Bump up to 5.5 bullets on everything and the setup will be a lot happier.

Hardware is too low? The boat is setup to be ran with dual motors. When I put the single motor in I matched the shaft tube angle exactly. The boat came with these two MADE into hull from the factory so I would only assume they are made at that angle for a reason

Did you try moving the strut up any to see if it get up on plane yet ?
Also did you try moving the cell packs closer to the transom to,
Like on the other side of where they are now in the hull.
I looks like you have the cell on the starboard side,
It would be better to have it on the port side for CG and torque roll for the prop.
You should be running to packs,
One for each side for better CG in the boat setup.

Looks like a very efficient setup. I like the way you have the ESC mounted directly to the motor. That along with the high voltage connectors should help the system warm up nicely. Phil

I feel like that may have had a hint of sarcasm in it? As every other reply has been about something that in completely incorrect about the setup. I realize the esc could be in a better spot location, but it gets PLENTY of water forced through it. And as for the connectors CURRENTLY used, they are the only thing I had handy to fit the massive wire from the battery

I would suggest you spend some time reading through the forums, especially in the boat build section. This current setup is not going to get you far.........
