Programming 180sea king esc

Im trying to program my esc 180. Sea king. And when I plug in the esc and then battery. I get the program card to come on. But it just comes up with just - - - there are no numbers like it normaly does. What's the problem

Skullcraken and I were just talking about his and him having the same exact problem. His programmer worked on another esc but not the one he needed it to.. He ended up having to program manually w/ the controller. Sure sure what happened or why.
