to be honest these things just make a mess. I had an oiler on a project awhile ago yah it was really smooth but just not really needed in my opinion. It just makes the boat a mess I'm happier without it.

I dont want oil, I want grease. Grease will help keep water out. Oil will run up the flex just like water. Also oil will break the grease down.

I use something similar on my 45" Sniper (with a long 1/4" flex), and have also soldered a small nipple to other boat's stuffing tubes and put a short piece of silicon tube with a cap on it to inject a bit of oil between runs. I grease before I leave the house, the oil is more supplemental. On the Sniper, I drilled a very small hole in the lid of the can to allow air in, otherwise the oil didn't really make it out of the can, I also put a couple small pieces of foam in there to slow things down. I fill the can(85w gear oil) when getting ready for the run, and it's pretty much empty when it comes back. I have never really had a mess from it(although you can't store it full, it will seep right out the end of the tube), and personally, I think it works great for my application, as the flex/tube is very long. Water up the tube has never been an issue for me, and the only way oil would come back UP the shaft is if it sits with the resevoir full too long, or you run reverse. FWIW water breaks grease down also because it does mix in with it, regaurdless of being "waterproof grease" or not.

I like the input that we're getting here this is great. Thxs all. I also have a long shats in my build and I use lithium marine grease in my zonda. I think it should work well in a reservoir, such as this.

I have a T-bar oiler, a bit more than the 20 bucks the OP paid. However, it has up, down, side, to side adjustments to align tube to motor.
All of these are for 5" rails, and 1/4" tubes, but it is possible to adapt, (I have).

On the subject of adding oil: regardless whether it breaks down grease or not, I put a few drops in the bushing. I think grease alone is good in the stuffing tube with or without the Teflon tube. That section of the cable/tube has enough clearance for grease to go in, but when you come to the stub shaft, usually the tight tolerance will squeeze the grease out pretty well, it is before the stub shaft goes in the bushing that I add a few drops of heavy machine oil. It is important that Heavy Duty-HYPOID type is used. The Anti-wear and Extreme Pressure properties in these types of oil is desired. I use 85W140 Gear Oil. It actually lowers operating temp on my SpeedMaster Stinger when compare to just grease. I was surprised to feel how hot it is if you bench WOT your boat---which was itself an accident while calibrating ESC as I don't do that. Anyway, after no more than a few seconds I placed my hand on the stinger barrel and the temp was high enough to discourage me for laying my hand on it again!
The "hybrid" lube method helped to lower the temp noticeably. I don't know if Teflon bushings have this trait, as I said before, I don't WOT my boat on land so I like to hear what is the finding on these bushings.
