post some pics if the boat. if you go to the OSE store they have great drive and rudder kits that you can buy. They ship really fast to.

I'm I'll check that out but I don't even know what I'm looking for like I said it's a 42in Vhull, with the 2moro motors, astrologer inc digital speed control, hitec digital radio control system, and a futaba magnum JR radio. I don't know what size batteries to get or what size prop or rudder or turn fins nothing

We really need to see some pictures of what you have. Also, it's pretty important to know the KV rating of the motors before selecting batteries.

              Now we're getting somewhere.......
Those are brushed motors so KV rating is irrelevent, but if you see a Turn rating, like 10.5T, that may help. This is an older setup, so somebody more experienced with it will probably recognize it and chime in here. A pic from the rear may help as well to see what you're missing. The radio is older technology, but people still use it and you'll get by fine with it. Don't expect any blazing speeds with this, but surely it will be fun! This is more of a "nostalgic" boat and I'm sure some old schoolers can help you out.
FWIW, you certainly don't sound like a fool. We all start somewhere, and you're in the right place to get help, welcome aboard!

I don't want to burst your bubble but here we go.......OK first off you have very very old brushed motors, even if they do run they will not run well or for long, The brushes are probably so old they would need to be replaced (trying to find brushes nowadays would be a challenge in itself) and the comms cut (try and find someone w a comm latthe???? I still have mine!!!!!). The speedos are old too. The hull has a sub surface drive (the prop is completely submerged under the hull) and we don't really use this type of setup anymore, it creates a lot of draw and doesn't propel boats efficiently, we pretty much use all surface drives nowadays. Even in the "old days" this would probably use 32 NiMh cells (equavalent to 8-10s LiPo and even then that was expensive). The radio will work but I believe it is so old that it isn't even narrow band FM so it's actually illegal to use that radio (not that anyone will really care) but they are much more prone to interference. If you are into getting this boat running it would take some considerable work and some money. not that it wouldn't be a fun project but I would convert it all to brushless and a surface drive. That being said a Motor, speedo, batts, hardware a charger hardware etc........would probably run you in the $4-500 range and that is going CHEAP CHEAP!!! Bigger boats require bigger power BIG usually = expensive. My recommendation if you really want to get into this hobby is to probably look into some of the RTR boats out there, The Revolt, Pursuit, Motle Crue, Miss Geico etc, for the same money 4-500 you can prob get one of these boats a couple sets of batteries and a charger and you will have much more fun

On the other hand if you enjoy a challenge and have the ability to bring those motors back to life (brushes and a comm lathe) and you want you can probably get a cheap set of lipos (8S probably but we need to know what winds and size the motors are) and a charger and some cheap hardware you can probably get it to go.
