    I have a few questions

OK, I am building a fightercat daytona and just had a few questions as it has been a while since I built something and I know times have changed a bit.

    1) What is an ideal cell count for this hull- 6 or 8s? (running a single motor)
    2) I see a lot of people lay carbon fiber in their hulls now- is this recommended with this hull? I know it will strengthen it but don't know if it "needs" it or not. If I should use carbon fiber- where should I get the cloth, what epoxy should I use (I have some West g flex here- will that work?) and are there any how too's on doing this? I do like the "bling" of all the CF goodies, but if the reinforcement isn't needed with this hull, I'll just laser cut ply battery trays and such and keep it simple.
    3) motor placement- I had typically placed the motor further forward with the batteries towards the rear and also used an S bend in the stuffing tube (I have since learned the S bend is unnecessary). Now I see typically motors are towards the rear and batteries are in front- is one preferred over the other? I figure the bend would be sharper with the motor further back.
    4) What motor is recommended for this hull? I was thinking of using a 4082 with kv based on the cell count. I do want 60+ potential out of it, with the ability to prop/battery down for sport running.

Anything specific I need to know about this hull? Things have changed a bit since my last buildup, so I just want to get on the right track with it :). Thanks.

Bump? Especially curious about how to properly lay the CF inside the hull- what epoxy should I use, do I sand prior (assuming yes), technique, etc. Thanks.

Don't use G-Flex for the CF inlay. I use West Systems with 207 hardener but it can be a bit pricey for just one inlay. Z-Poxy PT-40 finishing resin from Kintec works ok.

Thanks Joel. Yeah, the West is a bit pricey, but everything I have ever heard and seen of it, it's good stuff! Is it even worth doing the CF aside from looks? I know it will strengthen things, but is it needed at this level?

All less expensive hulls benefit from reinforcing IMO. The Daytona isn't terribly thin, but it could use some help over the tunnel. I'm not sure how fast you want to push this hull.

Here is one I built last year with a 3730 1600kv outrunner on 6s.

I am thinking a Leopard 4082 1600kv on 6S with maybe the occasional 7-8S romp. My Pursuit on 8S with that motor is a rocket, but the hull can't handle the speed and spends more time airborne than on the water...

What battery trays are those you have in yours? The CF ones I have seen look shorter than yours and I didn't like that about them. I prefer to have the room to move things around a bit. Any tips or pointers on laying the mat? I was thinking of going with one of the colored ones like this- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Carbon-Fiber...item1c35050d8c since the boat is going to be mainly blue. Is there a disadvantage to this?

              Almost 14'' long

Carbon fiber comes in black only, the color is Kevlar. CF is a bit easier to work with. Also the blue kevlar is pretty dark in a hull after it dries, almost black.

Thanks for the link. I did not know that about the colored stuff. The boat is going Viper GTS blue (with some gray and maybe even pearl orange, not sure yet), so I was thinking the blue would look good in it. If it is that dark though, not worth it. Any links to a good source for about a yard of CF? Thanks.

Here is a pic of a hull I did with blue Kevlar.

Wow, you're right, barely shows up! I was hoping the blue would stand out more than that. Do you think the resin may have something to do with it (too dark)? Thanks again.
