    Rules thoughts

It would seem to me that since LiPoly is most likely used in what 100% of the boats now? The rules should be as follows

2S 7.4 nominal vs. NIMH should allow for 7 cells
4S 14.8 nominal vs. NIMH should allow for 13 cells
    ect

Even after these changes LiPoly would have a clear advantage with discharge curve and weight advantages.
Why am I asking, I just don't like LiPoly and would rather run NIMH or even NICAD to tell you the truth.

    thanks,
    Steve

Well I think you are in the minority. Lipo is proven and safe if used correctly. There is no turning back to Nimh or NiCad, that is simply old school. Lipo is more powerful and efficient compared to nimh or NiCad.

My point is that since LiPoly is so much better, let nicad and nimh have a chance. LiPoly will never be safe in my eyes, I use them but I don't like them.

Hill, all you do is complain.
        What exactly don't you like?
Saying you just don't like them for no reason is just ridiculous

Been in battery business for 20 years, I don't like Lipoly for several reasons. I am not complaining, just communicating. I have no idea who you are.

Did I miss something? Are Sub C illegal now? Guess I need to look at the rules.

Oh, I see now, chemistry is not list now in the NAMBA rules. Just a small tweak and NIMH could compete. But I can see 3 of you are dead set against it. Interesting.

I tell you what I think will happen. LiPoly will be banned someday, just a matter of time. (My 2 cents) It's not safe and it's shipped illegally all across America now. The 1st commercial airline that goes down, it's history.

I am not complaining, I understand why people want to run it, it has amazing energy. I just don't think it's safe and it's fragile also.

Gasoline use to be legal at Indy until it killed several drivers. Lipoly will go down the the same way, just a matter of time. Insurance will have some claims and congress will ban those packs being used by the general public in a heart beat.

There's no war, just common sense. I have 2 children, I don't want those things anywhere near them.

Banned? Are you nuts? Lipoly technology is advancing every day. Heck, even my Kia has lipoly batteries in it lol. I don't know you, so this is obviously nothing personal, but I get the feeling you have been around this hobby from the start and just are being too stubborn to change. I have used, abused and mishandled lipo batteries for over 11 years now and the only ones that ever burst were the ones I wanted to burst. I have crashed planes, boats and car with lipos and mangled the cells and have not had an issue. Am I lucky? I'm sure I am, but they are not nearly as volatile as some old timers would lead you to believe.

That all said, I do follow much safer handling guidelines with them now just because I figured I had pushed my luck enough and it would catch up to me eventually, but I have never had an issue with them. Hell, to be 100% honest- the ONLY batteries I ever had issues with were both nimh- one lost a cell in use and burned a hole in my boat and the other let loose on the charger, damaged the fender on my car AND put several scuffs on the door going into the house from the garage from the shrapnel hitting it- and the car was in the driveway!

Lipos can be dangerous if not treated with respect. Hell a five gallon gas container is the same way but I'm sure you have something like that you have no issues with your children around. Fact of the matter is I would be willing to bet I can go through just about any one persons garage including my own and find at least 5 to 10 things just as or more dangerous than a lipo pack. Another thing you fail to realize it lipo life and lion batteries are being used in things like hearing aids pacemakers and insulin pumps. Congress will not ban them. Oh and one last thing, by the time it MAY get to this point you speak of we will most likely have an even better possibly safer energy source for rc.

Oh my, hey whatever reasons someone doesn't want to like something is their own. Many things in the past were dangerous, when gas was placed in the early autos many lobbied congress that they were mobile bombs. Natural gas being piped into our homes. Electricity capable of killing us in our homes inches from our heads when we sleep. Nicad batteries can degrade and explode also. Lipos arnt any worse than the same lipo technology thats in your cell phone, laptop, garmen, ect. And the airlines allow us to transport those lipo powered devices-even in the cockpit of our most trusted commercial planes. It's just technology and the proper way to handle it, ya know don't smoke when filling up your car but they don't tell you many more refueling fires have been created from static electricity sparks.

Can you say dreamliner 787? Yes, don't say it ain't so, I have industry letters and know the testing people. LiPoly batteries are burning up the airplanes and I know why.

That's the not the point however, what's the matter with moving the voltage from 7.4 to 8.4? Your charging LiPoly up to 8.4 anyway.

But this thread is going nowhere, lock it up Mr. Clark
