    Build advice for a rookie

how do I go about finding the best position to mount my stingers on my hull ?? is there a rule of thumb that's gets the props at a certain height from the bottom or ???? my hull is a genesis but I would also want to know where you would place it on other types of hulls , thanks ???

On the Genesis cat hull a good starting point for the strut height is when the hull is sat on a table the bottom of the strut also sits on the table at the same height as the ride pads. You can then fine tune the height of the strut, you will find that on the Genesis & some other cats the bottom of the strut needs to be raised further up so that theirs a 3-4mm gap under the strut when sat on a table.

Does this apply for my stingers also ??? so the center of the prop should be right above the ride pad ?? is the ride pad the lowest part of the hull ???

This info is for cats like the Genesis where you wouldn't be using a stinger but a strut which has vertical up & down movement as well as positive & negative angle changes. Yes the ride pad is the lowest part of the hull, stingers are for monos where depending on the size of the boat determines how far up from the bottom of the v the centre of the stinger would be, I normally go between 8-10mm up from the v to the centre of the stinger. If you go to low you possibly get more chine walk because not enough of the hull is in the water on a mono.

Oh I see , but to run twins on a genesis most people use stingers , does the 8-10 mm rule apply here also ??

Yes I was referring to single motors in cats with the strut, the twins with stingers are dictated by the mounting face of the stinger as theirs not much room under the hulls. The 8-10mm was for monos.
