    Fightercat 3730 motor setup question

    Hi guys,

Would it be worth it to run a thrust bearing on the fightercat FC3730 1600 Kv? I am considering ordering a thrust bearing, but I am not even sure if it would be possible to do so sandwiched between the collet and the motor since there is a circlip in place? The motor shaft appears to be 8mm diameter then steps down to 6mm at the base of the shaft where the circlip attaches. I am using the fightercat water cooled motor mount and I don't think the option exists to mount the thrust bearing in front of the motor mount since the diameter is too big to allow a thrust bearing to rest against it, let alone there is most likely not enough space between the stuff tube exit and the collet to allow for a thrust bearing! I have read the Fightercat outrunners have come apart possibly due to the circlip coming loose, but possibly prevented by use of a thrust bearing. How has the reliability been for guys running this motor? should I just ditch the thrust bearing idea?

I am also going to order an aeromarine three piece collet to run but I am not even sure if there is enough space for that between the mount and the stuff tube, I might have to cut the stuff tube back some to make it work....

You would need a front plate for the thrust bearing to push against otherwise you are pushing on the snap ring. The have a 7mm main shaft turned down to 6mm. I have the 1970kv version. I'm not going to use a thrust bearing in mine but, no time yet to test on pond...

I did remove the set screw for the magnet assembly and push the shaft further out the rear so there is no gap to close when thrust is applied. I replaced the set screw with a stainless steel one and some purple thread lock
