motor shaft / collet-coupler off center

Hi guys,

I am trying to finish up a boat and something is not right with the collet. Specifically, the collet assembly seems to be off center when I rotate it by hand in front of the stuff tube assembly. The off center wobble is very little, but enough to make me concerned about snapping a flex and excess vibration. I am running an outrunner motor...

Anytime you have a slip fit on a set screw collar you will have run out. Also, the further away from the point where the difference is the more out of round it will run.

I would try a higher quality coupler.

Thanks for the advice. I would like to run an aeromarine but I don't think I can fit it in the current space between the stuff tube and the motor. I might need to search around for an alternative or two...any ideas?

Octura makes a short version.

Bass, thanks for the link, I am unsure about octura though, I prefer an aeromarine since I already run that on my Spartan with excellent results. I might order both and see which one works better (more true). I understand the octura uses a different type of tightening, which actually requires force compared the aero which is more lightly cinched since it has the brass olive nut...

many people dont care for the 3 part as the brass tends to STICK on the flex making service difficult. Ive also lost a shaft/prop by not having it tight enough... $75 down the drain...

Wont use them again.
