Sky Lipo: Good batteries or junk?

I had purchased some 2s and 3s packs from Sky Lipo last september and wouldnt you know it I have only 3 2s packs still running and 1 3s pack. They seem ok at first but require a lot of balancing. More so than the Venom or Hyperion packs. I had purchased 6 2s 40c 3300mah packs and only one of those is still good. The 2 2s 40c 4000mah hard packs are still good but one puffed up the last time out so it is probably heading its way down hill now. The 4 3s 40c 3300mah packs are now down to one. Its weird I have had all sorts of issues with these batts. A few have cells that will not discharge where others have cells that will not charge. They all puffed up before they went south. Aonther bad thing about these batteries is there is only a 30 day warranty on them and if you switch charging leads they knock off 15% of a refund(Hobby Partz). I am careful of my amp draw and do not over prop my boats. I just find it funny that my venom and hyperion packs from 2 years ago are still running strong. I would like to know if there are other members who have some experience with these packs.

never used them but you sorta get what u pay for in lipos, this brand is super cheap pricing to yield a low cycle life and poor cell quality imo....turnigy nanotechs are a bit more but way better quality......... then you have the real good cells like the hyperion and dinogy on the market now as well which if used andmaintained proper will last longer, fyi I have two full seasons of boating on my nanotechs cells and they run very well still.

Try SPC lipos. I've run them for quite a while now in my RC trucks.

I have used their 4s, 5000mah 40c for two seasons, never a hint of puffing. Always performed well. Now the 2s is another story: they needed extra balancing and now they drop their voltage under load real soon. My suspicion is that they ( Sky Lipo) might use different cells on different cell configuration.?

I've heard the hard packs have issues, but my blue sky lipos are been abused and work great. Never puffed. Much better than my zippys

I actually was refering to soft packs, I don't use hard packs, and up to now I have been really happy with their 4s.

I have a buddy who was running the soft packs in his Traxxas Spartan. He used Sky Lipo 3s 4000mah 40c packs and all 6 he bought lasted about 5-6 months. We both bought our batteries at the same time. I wonder if we got a bad batch from China????

Hmm... Well they are from china. It's too bad china has such poor quality control issues, Cause sometimes the stuff is great. Then it's rubbish...

I am really glad that you clarified that, I should have been more specific and you are right about those hard pack, I seem to remember reading that as well.

I've given up on buying expensive packs I've had cheap pack puff as well as tenergy packs venoms nice eflites so I just buy 40c zippys and turnigys and just expect for them to go after awhile. Hate to look at it that way but what can you do ?

The problem with HobbyPartz is that the 4s Sky Lipo is always out of stock. I bought Dinogy instead. They are still a very good deal considering their reputation and price point.
