    Birdie ESC

Are the Birdie ESC from Hobbyking any good, especially the 50A one?

    Whats your experience with them?

My ESC on my Supervee blew up and I am looking for a cheap ESC (around $30) for a replacement. It would be strictly for occasinoal sport boating..... Very hard to make when you have a 4 year old son : )

    Thanks.

Both the stock SuperVee & SuperVee-R ESC's are rated at 45-amps, the difference between the two is...
Original SV had 3.5mm bullets & this bolt on water cooling setup... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMWA1&P=7 - Sorry could not find pix of the ESC itself.

SVR ESC has 4mm bullets & built on water cooling, it looks like this... http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXZGW7&P=Z

As far as a low cost replacement, forget the "Birdie", you would be far better off with this one... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=17441 - notice I picked the Australia warehouse

Stay on the page for a couple minutes & a box will pop up with a "One time only offer!" of $41.64, down from the regular price of $59.32, both those amounts are in Aussie dollars.

The Turnigy ESC's can be programmed with one of these... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...ming_Card.html - unfortuanately it is only available from the International or USA warehouse's - again stay on the page for awhile and the price will drop, to $5.82

    Hope that helps your out

I am using it in my Bolt without any problem, rock solid and completely waterproof.

        Hi Paul

I was also looking at this one and was not sure..... The price is very attractive. Do you use 2s or 3s? I am planning to use 3s......

          Hello
I am using it with 3s, 35mm prop (also tried with 40mm). I have tried it also with 4s, no problem at all.
You need to realize that the top of the esc is metal and also act as a big heat sink, beside the water cooling.
I never had the chance to feel it even warm at touch...
It is either very well design and built either wayyyyyy underrated.
          Regards

In my grandsons 27" OB tunnel with a 2860 motor on 2-3s we use a Birdie 100a. Very cheap but it works well. 37mm pops with 3000kv. Yes there are better units out there but this thing just keeps on ticking.

JC you what I don't understand?? Everybody says the Turnigy ESC's are the same as Seaking's, yet it seems like I always see posts from people having issues wth the Turnigy's, hardly ever see any (negative) posts about the Seaking's.

I've had 3 SK's (including the 60A unit) and all worked perfect. Sold the 60A unit & now kicking myself in the butt for it, perfectly good unit that I could use bout now. Still have 35A & 90A units & both are working perfectly. Also have 3 HW car ESC's, again no issues.

                  JC,
If you decide to get one, I learned a trick yesterday for finding the manuals...

You have to sign into your account for this to work. Scroll down a little past the price / right at the beginning of the comment area and you'll see 4-tabs, the one on the right says "Files" - see attached screen shot. There's no manual available for that ESC.

BUT, if you goto the 90A version of that model, there's a manual that covers all the HK boat ESC's including the 50A unit... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...X462171X50.pdf

                  And damned expensive too
