    SAW ESC question

I am starting a build for a twin 6s rigger running 2 x 1527 .5y motors on 6s. My question is what esc is preferred. My thoughts are between the MGM 280 or the 400, Swordfish 300 or the another suggestion.

Need to work out what is needed before design to allow for room.

Any help from vast resource on OSE is much appreciated.

    Cheers

    Mate,

Not sure i would go for a twin SAW boat.
Sure twins are cool - ive got one.

They are 2 boats in one really and could be a hassle when equipment is pushed to the extreme edge.

    as for the ESC
i have had great success with MGM - never killed one. Had wires fall off and CAPS blow out but solder on new parts or wires and they have kept going.

Ive heard good things from the swordfish but dont own any.

good luck, post some pics when you start the build

Thanks Dave was leaning towards the MGM. If the rigger doesn't work I think I will put them in a cat or build an EB rigger with one of them. More out of lets see what we can do type thing.

All being well we will have the lasers and timing set up very soon so we can have a blast in the sunny state.

      Cheers

        Andrew,

Specifically the 1527 0.5Y are extreme amp hogs as in 400A on ramp up. Although in a twin you might be able to reduce the amp draw if you can keep the weight down. The MGM 28026 is a pretty stout compact controller, but the 25063 and 40063 and pretty big.

I don't have any experience with the Swordfish 300, but the Castle ICE 240 works excellently. I have run that motor and esc together successfully, although I will say I preferred the 1D over the 0.5Y. The Hydra ICE is also decent to package compared to the MGM 25063. My first choice would be the ICE 240.

My saw rigger is equipped with a 1527 1D and Castle Ice 240 with capbank and I really like this combo...also tried the SF 300 but it's big and heavy with lot of data misreadings! Gill

Thanks Tyler and Gill for the info. I have 1527/1D also so that might be the sweet spot in the end.

The big MGM is big physically which is a drawback as is the same with SF300.

Looks like I might pick up a set castle and mgm controllers.

            Cheers for the help.

I prefer to build every SAW boat as a twin. I'm not a rigger guy though, so my opinion is limited to cats.

The 63V MGM and big ESCs. The swordfish 300s are waterproof so they are fairly heavy. I'm not sure you're going to be able to stuff that much into a rigger, along with the lipos required to utilize the equipment.
MGM makes a 8s ESC that's a little smaller, and I believe ATOS makes one as well, but they have a large footprint, similar to the old schulze controllers.

I think it will be between the 26v 280amp mgm and the 240amp castle. With limited room they will be the best option I think.

                  Both are good choices.
