drive dog grind flat spot

So i have a 1/4 flex shaft made by aeromarine and i am wondering if it it is toxic to grind a flat spot in it where the drive dog set screw goes? (the fumes/shavings to inhale)

Please do not respond unless you are sure i dont want to get cancer

Dude, I understand , anytime I grind the shaft or flex cable, CF and the likes, I wear N95 Approved mask. http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3...6058635&rt=rud.
This is the way I do it w/o going to the whole chemical warfare out fit.

You don't need a mask. Wear safety glasses. I'm a machinist by trade. Trust me, if grinding a tiny flat in a prop shaft gave you cancer, I'd have been dead a LONG time ago

Agreed, I've been grinding and welding for 25+ years, still going strong! If you want to wear a mask by all means do so, but walking down the road is more harmfull to your lungs imo. Cf, BrCu, f/g etc a different story, use a mask there. Or you could use a file!

Be that as it may, the rule of thumb for me is that if I can see the dust ( particle) while working at my work bench, then in no way would I want to breathe that air.
I take my chance walking down the road... lol...

Ben as I'm a retired dentist I would say this little task won't hurt your health BUT the use of a protective mask and mainly safety glasses will keep you on the safe side.I use to use cutting wheels with my dremel to prepare my shafts and if you re not skilled they broke very easily..a danger for our eyes.After forty years playing with boats and prepping hundreds of props safety equipment is the only way to go.
