Problem with ICE HV200 and Scorpion 4035-800 Set-up

I have a 8th scale hydro with a ICE200HV esc (brand new), running a 4035-800 kv Scorpion out runner 8 pole motor. I ran this boat and motor last season with a Fighter Cat 4-16S 200 amp ESC and nano-tech 25 C batteries 5000 mha 25C 5S in parallel for a 10S set-up. The boat worked good and I made many runs with it. I burned down the batteries at the end of the season, and also lost the ESC. I put a new HV 200 ICE Castle controller and a pair of regular Turnigy 30-40 C 5000 mha 5S packs in series (brand new batteries). The boat hesitate 3 times while trying to break plane, then planes out and runs fine for 1/2 a lap. Then the whole thing dies. After a few seconds you can repeat the problem, over and over. It just will not run more than about 1/2 a lap then clonks out. I have played around with some of the ESC settings. I had the voltage cut-off set to 30V, punch to 50%, timing at 6 degrees, amps set up to 275. Still has the issue. Has any one used a Castle ICE with this out-runner? Is this ESC just not compatible? I am attaching a .pdf file with data from my last run. Any help from the experts would be appreciated!

I ran an ICE240 with that motor on 10S and it worked just fine. I have not run an ICE200HV2 so I am not very familiar with that controller. You should set the frequency at 8 kHz and the timing at 15*. I do not see an error bar in the logging charts to explain why the controller shut down; normally I'd expect the bar to say "loss of signal" or "low voltage cutoff". Could the problem have been a radio issue? I have seen this kind of thing happen with both a low transmitter battery and a low receiver pack.

I don't think it is a radio problem. Same unit as last year and I use this radio on 6 other boats with no problems . Where do you set the frequency at? I did not see that parameter on the program menu. Also, I do not remember what timing I had set last year. 15 degrees is still safe with this motor? Thanks for your reply!

          Mojo,

Do you have the settings on the ICE200 set to outrunner mode? I believe Castle had to develop specific settings based on Scorpion motors.

I had the same problem with a NEU 1530 and a castle controller, like the controller would thermal or start phasing, or the radio was losing signal, I swapped it out with a new controller no problem, sent it back to castle and they replaced it. I have a buddy running the same thing here in our club, in his scale, no special setting he's been running 3 seasons with it. Did u try swapping controllers??? If not I have about 12 new speedos with me and I'll be in Mi on wed so you can try a new unit there if you want.

I might take you up on that Mike. It was a brand new unit, and this is the only thing I tried to run with it. See you Wednesday afternoon/evening.
