I actually swapped my Neu for the castle, and honestly, the castle is a beast. Both castle and neu are excellent, but cost wise I will go for the castle in the future.

Neu > Castle > Leopard
...just my opinioin.
I think the 1515-1y castle gets compared to the 1515-1y Neu a lot, but they're not really the same motor. The 1512 castle is more of an equivalent (physically) to the Neu 1515.
I would take a Neu over a comparable Castle in a high speed setup. I think the wrap is a little better on the Neu.Comment

I'm pretty sure that 41mm dimension on the Castle includes the fins, no?My private off road rc track

41.78 with the fins 39.98 without. Hk 4074 2000kv vs castle 1515 1y I noticed hand over fist improvement no gps but gotta be damn near 10 mph up top and a whole lot more grunt down low. Also a big diff in pricepoint though.Comment

In the same DF33 I have run a 1515/2200 Neu - Leopard 4082/2200 and TP4092/2200. The TP was the fastest but didn't last long, not sure I would buy another. The 1515 faster than the 4082 Leopard. Same props and course tested on a stopwatch.

It's amazing how the neu outperforms a much larger leopard. But not really, cause obviously neu is way better.
As far as the castle vs Leo video, that's hilarious! I've owned the Leo, and it's good for a budget, but compared to the castle, it's a paper weightComment

Neus are rated at continuous watts where leos rate themselves at peak or surge watts, a 1515/1Y is rated at 1250 watts but can easily produce way over 2000 I have a Neu 1527 rated at 2250 pushing a 19lb scale boat into the upper 60's with no problem, sounds more like 4000-4200 watts to me!!! Neus quality and customer service will have me using their motors exclusively,(except in spec boats) Here's a deal breaker for you, I can get Leo motors for FREE and I choose not to run them, how's that.We call ourselves the "Q"Comment

Since the Castle/Neu motors are being brought up, I'll mention that I've found that the handfull of green ones I've had have an enormous amount of play between the rotor and the inner thrust bearing on the front (wire side) endbell. I am only guessing, but as the original intent of this motor was that it was designated to be used as a car motor in which the thrust on the rotor (motor shaft) is radial to the shaft, driving gears, the fore-aft fit of the rotor wasn't considered critical. In any event I always use an external thrust bearing with these motors.Attached Files2008 NAMBA P-Mono & P-Offshore Nat'l 2-Lap Record Holder; '15 P-Cat, P-Ltd Cat 2-Lap

One would not know the difference until having used a Neu, I regret buying quite a few numbers of Leo---not that I don't appreciate the price/quality equation. However, since my MeanMachine with the Neu 1515 1y , I would not put another Leo in my build, to up grade a RTR perhaps, but not in a build which I spend countless hour of labor of love. The Neu really is that much more efficient than the Leo, runs w/o fuss and very low temp. This comes from a non-racer, I am just a sport boater. I got a Castle-Neu 1515 1y and will use it in a Insane 34", will report back when I get to that project!
p.s.
on mine there is no play, I got inquiry because another member seemed to have play on his, so now I see it is not that uncommon to have this characteristic.Too many boats, not enough time...Comment

Tony I use a thrust washer against the drive dog and strut, I've actually had the ones inside the boat blow up and have little ball bearings bouncing around!!! Tamiya makes this great little one piece thrust bearing thats the same width of a standard drive dog and looks so nice and neat!!! Steve sells them here on OSE. You can use them inside with 5mm shafts but I only have 2-3 boats that have 5mm motors. We call ourselves the "Q"Comment
