    whiplash 20 power suggestions?

    http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/...160#post510160

So I have this gorgeous whiplash now, and it's time to get some life in her. I'm looking for some input from some EXPERIENCED people about this boat. Not much racing around here, so no limits on what goes in her. I want the best speed I can get without getting too far on the edge of stability, as it get's a bit windy/choppy sometimes where I run.

I am concerned about fitting an esc. The SK180 doesn't seem comfortable, and I'm concerned a 120 isn't enough, even if I only put my Leo 3674(2200kv) in it for now. I may have to gut my DF Explorer for the Castle Hydra Ice 240lv, but that's kinda big too.......

I wouldn't mind throwing my Neu 1521(1577kv) in her on 6s/5000mah, but I don't know where I would fit an esc.........

I will be(and have been) searching threads, but I just wanted to get some conversation started as I go.

Probably leaning toward starting with the 3674/2200kv and SK120 on 4s just to get her on the water, any feedback on this setup or starting prop recommendations would be appreciated.

That Leopard should work although I'd go for an ESC larger than 120 amps, it's too easy to prop higher with that motor and blow a low-amp ESC. Start with an x442, the 36mm motor won't spin what a 40mm motor will. A Castle 1515/1Y with quality packs would provide all the power that hull can handle.

        Mine will be running a Castle 1515 1y with a pair of 4s 4000mah packs, t-180 esc.
SHould be finished and on the water in a couple weeks if all goes well.
Concentrating on painting a 1/10 scale vintage hydro at the moment.
If my boats upside down then who owns the one I thought I was driving the last two laps?

I ran mine with a 540 8L on 2p with a 180 Turnigy it was a rocket ship. Ran an M445 . Unfortunately the district only runs P spec had to change to a UL 1 motor boat was just built to heavy for a UL 1.

On 4s that 1512 1800kv can turn a monster prop, today with my 29" clone mono I was running a prather 225, real fast! Eagletree said 68 amps. Motor and esc were barely warm to the touch, 35C packs were not much above ambient. If I could get one that was 2000-2200KV I'd love to run one in my Whip.

For sport running and racing build using 4s 2200kv. Buy a few m445 props and learn how to bend the tips very slightly. You may have to raise and widen ride pads because of extra wieght of 4s2p. Compartment is very tight so you may have to move motor back farther toward stern foe more esc clearance. Never run any electic boat in water that is too rough and choppy.

                  .......and kick ace !

Ran her today with 4s2p 5000's up in front. Had to sit SK180 on top of packs with velcro just under front cowling. Leo 3674/2200kv and 442 prop. She ran fast and stable, but started cutting out after a few minutes, I am thinking it may just be the BEC in the esc, as I haven't wired in an external one yet. Very pleased with the first run, other than ending up dead in the water pretty far out. I even disabled lvc after it initially cut out, and it ran for a few seconds, just long enough to get way far away from me, then nothing. So, some bugs to work out, but temps were just over 100, after a couple minutes, so a little room to prop up, maybe to a 445. Packs only took back under 2500 mah, so that wasn't the issue either.
Thanks for everybody's feedback, you are all a big help to my boating endeavors.

Eventually I will prob go for a 1515 1Y, but for now I'll run what I have. With this setup and an X442, motor came off under 120, esc 130-ish. Next props I have on hand would be a 440/3 or an M445, any suggestions....?

Also, is it feasible to consider dropping in my Neu 1521/1577kv with a single 6s 5000mah? I'm leaning away from this because of space inside with the longer can.

Boy, I miss my old whiplash now... I burned up an esc and UL-1 motor really bad in my PTSS at the MI Cup. I need to totally strip her down and repaint and re-think. Meh.... I may build another Whip or ML BW ... Please enjoy!!

440/3 had 53mph, 445 I think about the same, 545 had 54 but it was singing the wa-wa's as the prop hopped in and out of the water, could def trim it and get closer to 60 with that setup, but.........
Neu 1515 1Y with HRC jacket and M642 should be here tomorrow............
