What timing for my Feigao 9XLs ?

    What timing for my Feigao 9XLs ?

    hi, here is the setup of my eKOS C1:

    Installed:
    FC motor mounts
    FC rudder
    FC stingers 4mm
    Flush hull water pick ups
    Carbon fiber battery trays
    Feigao 9xls with cooling jackets
    Turnigy 120s
    2-Hyperian 4s 3300 mah
    Carbon fiber 3/16 props (counter rotating)


    which timing do you suggest me guys?

    everyone says different things on the internet like starting from 0* and going more and more higher while checking temps (have no patience and tool to check the Temperature), other say go with something around 15*...

    I set it to 15*, what do you guys think ?

    I ran all my XL motors at 15 degrees. 7,8,9 & 10Xl.

        One way to find out :). There is a reason people say to start low and creep up on timing while monitoring temps. If you want to bypass it due to a lack of patience, go for it :). Just fyi, the smoke smell never goes away :D.

        For the record, 15 is what I run on my 8xl and ran on my 12xl, but there is no way to guarantee 100% that it is ideal for yours as well- though chances are you'll be fine.

          I used 7.50 on mine,
          That is what I was told to use when I was using a 9xl 1898kv motor in my PB 36"shockwave modded to FE.

            It is really a moving target.
            But if you are running a big prop & bogging the motor down & drawing more amps & heating everything up and causing the battery voltage to sag, then lower timing is usually better. If you run smaller or less pitched props that lets the motor really sing, with reduced amps & heat then 15 degrees is better.

              I run 2 Graupner 2 bladed 40mm- 56mm pitch props. Should I go safe with a 7.5 degre timing ?

                That's a small prop for a 9Xl so I'd start at 11 & check the temps. If all is ok, try 15.

                  what's the difference between 11 and 15? will I seen an improvement ? does it worse the risk to burn my XL's?

                    Actually, this is the opposite of what is normally required. The greater the load on the motor, the more timing advance is needed for top efficiency. This is due to the increased time it takes for the motor coils to become fully energized. The lower the load, the less timing is needed. In fact too little timing for the load can cause overheating, just as too much can. When I raced the Feigao XLs (8 to 10) I ran between 10* and 15* (depending on load) with fine performance and reasonable temperatures for a racing setup.

                    If you are running a big prop and bogging down and drawing more amps and heating everything up and causing the battery to sag - the solution is not a change in timing advance. It is to put on a smaller prop.....

                      Timing will depend on how much load you motor sees. Most of my single motor XL's are ran 10-15 degrees. My twin motor cat likes 7.5 degrees.
