    Economical p mono setup suggestions

Hi guys,, looking to setup a DF21 (33") as a "P" class mono but don't want to spend the big bucks for a Neu motor and big speedy.
Do you have any suggestions for a less expensive motor and speedy which will give reasonably good heat racing performance without the price tags?

    Looking forward to your feedback.
    Regards
    Tom

Hi Tom, a good choice would be a leopard 4074 or 4082 and a T180 esc, or what I did was get a aquastar 3974 2200kv motor and T180 from hobbyking. It cost me $185 NZ delivered and has proven to be a good setup in my rigger. Good enough to take out the open electric title at this years NZ nats. I'm running 4S 5000 65c nanotech batts and on a 442 prop (unmodded) runs 55mph and comes back with motor and esc barely warm. Some bigger propping is likely. It is getting hard to resist putting these into my Pursuit also but i want to keep it P-ltd.

      Tom,

The Turnigy T-180 is the best bang for the buck. For motors, also look for Castle 1515 1Y from the Buggy/Truggy market. You can buy a can cooler for these pretty reasonably. For both pieces you can spend about $225 or less if you can find the motor used.

I think the tp 4092 2200kv.motor found at fighterracing.com is a great choice at $100 with the t- 180 and dinology lipos wouldd be a reliable fast setup

If you intend to race then the Castle motor is a better choice. It is higher quality and more efficient than any Leopard - meaning either lower temperatures or more speed, along with increased reliability. I got my Castle E-Revo motor on eBay for under $120 - same as Castle 1515/2200 motor just black. I have the TP 4092/2200 and it isn't bad - it has very similar performance to the 1515 but runs hotter....meaning less efficiency.

While I usually don't recommend the Chinese ESCs, the T180 has proven to be very good, low price or not. This setup can pull over 150 amps easily, so get the best packs you can afford. Remember that all the power in an FE boat is in the packs, not the motor. The Dinogy packs are a lot better than the Turnigy junk without the cost of other high quality packs.

            Tom,

Looks like you're in Australia? Entropy cells are economical and powerful, can get them on the AMPBA forum website and are really good.

In our club (Brisbane) at the moment, a TP powered DF Cyber Storm is leading the way against plenty of NEU powered boats. JOhn does build and drive a good boat though! A Castle motor would also work well. I'd steer clear of the Leopards personally. A Turnigy 180 ESC would be fine.
