Do I match the lenght up from the end of the threads from my old shaft to my new one then cut?

Or do I match up where the shafts meet the flex line and then cut?

I hope this makes sense to anyone. I think im asking my question right. It should be the overall lenght of my old shaft from thread to the end where it goes into the collet.
