    5mm Collet on a 0.187 flex shaft?

    Hello,
For my cheetah I’m building, I was going to use a 0.187 flex shaft. My motor has a 5mm shaft.
I would like to use this collet:

    It lists a flex shaft of 5mm. 0.187 inch = 4.75mm
Will this work? Am I concerned about nothing here?

    Thanks.

    Larry,

You don't want that collet. You want the 5mm to 4.75mm one. The MBP are very precise and cannot clamp down to make up the difference between a 5mm and 4.75mm(3/16") shaft diameters.

Rocket City Racing sells these in the states: http://www.rocketcityracing.com/MBP-...75_p_1712.html

Tyler, what flex cable will work with the 8x5mm Mbp collets? I recently bought two of the 8x5's from someone here. Hope i didn't buy these for nothing! Thanks,Mark

          Mark,

The 5mm collets are intended for European cable sizes. So if you can find 5mm flex cable then you are OK. Otherwise those will not work.

Thank you Tyler,i was told the collets i have are 4.75 mm.I have 2 of these collets, the first one i tried the top piece bottoms out until there is no threads left and it still will not grip. The other i tried this morning and it works fine. The top piece from the second one also works on the first one i tried. Hope this makes sense.I'll upload a pic so you can see what im talking about. Maybe they sell replacements? Thanks again,Mark

The collet on the right is the one with the issue's. See how its all the way down, bottomed out compared to the other? Yet the top piece on the left collet fits both the way it should. Strange
Sorry for the thread jack Larry

                Mark,

I see what you mean from the pics, but its hard to judge without knowing how the fingers are being compressed. Stick a 3/16 drill bit or a 3/16 stub shaft into the collet and then tighten and compare the two collets. I would normally assume that the nuts should be interchangeable. You could have a bad nut or if they are in fact different based on flex diameter someone may have swamped a 5mm on a 4.75mm.

I tried the drill bit Tyler,it has to be a faulty nut.Collet on the right the drill bit i can pull out by hand with it as far down as it will go.The nut on the left works fine with both. Maybe this is for the 5mm.
