    Neu 1521 1.5d Timming

I have a Neu 1521 1.5d 1869kv motor and a CASTLE 240amp Ice2 esc. The options I have on the ESC are 0 degrees or 5 degrees(it has 10,15 and others as well). Has anyone figured out which is better for this motor? 0 or 5? Maybe there is a "custom" setting for timming that I missed last night?

5 Deg works fine for that motor.

I run about 2 degrees on all my D winds from trials boats to heat racers. They all perform pretty well so I never found the need to experiment with the timing too much.

I smoked one of my ESC's and wrote an Email to CC support. Here's the answer I got from them:

"D wind motors are known as ESC and battery killers. They must be run at the
lowest possible timing setting on an ESC or they will damage the ESC or
battery without any increase in power. "

Yep, I think my 1D is set to 0 degrees too. I haven't changed anything but grease on that boat in two years so I'm not 100%.

This is what the Neu site has to say:

"...Use low (0-10 degrees)or medium(10-15 degrees) advance settings for “Y” wind motors and low (0-10 degrees) advance settings for “D” wind versions."

I run my 1521/1.5D at 1-2 degrees without problems. I do know that running a "D" wind Neu at 10* to 15* will cause problems.

OK. I have put this in my IPhone to be available forever more, so I quit having to re-check this. I am going with 5 degrees today on the 1521 motor. I have a 1527 that is "Y" motor that I have been running at 10, but am going to try 15 today. Has anyone seen better speeds with an adjustment in timing only and to what degree? Subtle change or large? Or is it more about controlling the heat.

The timing is different for a 1D versus a 1.5D. I have run 5 Deg for a 1.5D for years with no heat and great performance. There are only small gains from increasing the timing more and you generate more heat with mechanical output. If this is for a sport application stick with low timing.

the 1527/1y at 5-7 deg timing is fine any more and i just get more heat not any more speed

Mike, did you mean the 1527/1D instead of the 1Y? I find a few more mph with my 1Y at 15* advance...but different applications will give different results.
