    How to break in motor/batteries??

Ok, so the Grim Racer 2s 5000 40c packs for my MG2 will be here tomorrow. My question is, do I need to do anything special (charging-wise or running-wise) to the batteries or for that matter the motor itself before I start trying to go full-tilt with the boat? Any break-in necessary? Keep in mind I'm a noob and running it stock for a bit before I put on all the parts that I've ordered.

BL motors need no break in. As for packs, most manufacturers recommend a break in period. For the first few cycles keep the amp draw under 5C - hard to do in a boat. One maker did a limited test with two packs, one broken in as recommended and the other was run full power from the beginning. The latter was shot at just 2/3rds the life of the broken in pack.

Most boaters do not perform any pack break in and they seem to do fine. I break in all my packs, some of which have been raced hard for over three years and still work great. Others in my club who don't do a break in seem to have their packs last just 1-2 years....

I use a nickel pack discharger set at 15 amps, cycling the pack down to around 30 percent three times before I run in a boat. The first run in the boat is with a small prop to reduce the load. Before I used the discharged I ran new packs in a small model with a mild motor and small prop for a few cycles.

If a pack is faulty it will usually fail in the first few cycles. The break in let's you identify the problem in a low amp setting, reducing the risk of fire etc.

You don't have to break in your packs, my experience shows it does not hurt and probably helps.

You just use 1/3 of that packs mah a few times out,
And than charge them back up at 1c or less.
Just let them get the feel of the apm draw from the setup and they will be happier in the end.
          ? ONLY IF THEY WORK

I'll have to give it a try. I usually throw my packs in the boat and hammer the throttle first time out lol

Great info! I just got some new packs for the nats today. I usually give them like 10 runs on a pltd setup before they turn on but your method sounds great. i wonder if my Hyperion 720i can do it?
