Anyone evergotten a UL-1 motor that had messed up mounting holes

got the new (from Tower's scratch and dent page) UL-1 motor I was going to use in my cat. Went to try to mount it and only one hole seems to be for 3mm. The other three are definitely oversize. Think I found out why it was in the scratch and dent bin.

I had one that was "undersized", took some courage to force th 3mm to go thru, it's like I had to retap it though.
On the bigger hole, can u find a SAE sized screw that will seat? I seem to remember that there is one that is slightly bigger than the M3 screw, just thinking out loud. Good luck!

Yes Sir. I purchased a BRAND NEW 2030 motor from tower and it had (1) mount hole stripped/oversized. A 3mm bolt just spun inside it. I ended up just using the opposite mount holes, but probably should have returned it.

Anyone know if Aquacraft services motors or has spare endbells?

I got a good deal on a motor from Steven that had been returned because the holes had been drilled but not tapped (threaded). I took the motor apart (so I wouldn't get any shavings inside) and tapped the holes myself. Works great now.

Unfortunately tower won't do anything about it. is the front of the motor threaded? Didn't see any small screws holding it in place. A 3mm screw will go right thru the hole on three of them

The motor I got from Steven was a Fiegao but it more than likely is the same with the UL-1. The front end bell is a pressure fit and may have some sort of adhesive. Take the screws out of the back end and smack the shaft end on a chunk of wood to pop out the back end bell. Watch for any shims or washers for the shaft ends. Remove the rotor (can be a bit hard because of the magnets). Use a wood or plastic dowel to pop out the front end. Redrill a tap the holes to desired size and reassemble. Use some of this when you put the front end bell back on http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/pro...prod=mc-loc638.

I received a pair of Etti trim tabs where the set screw holes on one adjuster bracket were a different size entirely than the holes on the other bracket. Screwy. I decided not to use the adjuster brackets.

              Apparently china has hiccups too.

Just my opinion from personal experience, but Tower is really scraping the bottom of the barrel in the scratch-n-dent section lately. I've received everything from misrepresented planes to reef racers! Used to be that you could find a great deal there!

Don't get me wrong, they always 'make things right' in the end, but just not worth the aggravation.

When you buy from Tower Hobbies scratch and dent you are taking a roll of the dice with what you get. The items are usually returned for manufacturing defects and then sold on scratch and dent. I had a new vs-1 hull that was defective and I returned it to hobby services and they told me it was defective and would be thrown away and given a new hull. Well 6 months later a member on here was selling the same hull I returned and tower had it listed as new with only a parts bag missing. The damn hull was waterlogged and had mold growing from the inside out, but hey its new to them with only a bag of parts missing. Also there is no returns for an item bought from scratch and dent. Thats how they get over on you. If its too good to be true, it usually is.........
