    Help with MHZ Mystic 1850mm

    Hi Guys,

I'm planning to build a MHZ Mystic C5000 (1850mm / 73") and would very much appreciate some input. I've read a number of posts on the forum concerning this hull but I would like to get some up to date input as products change so frequently.

Let me set the scene ..... this boat is being built as a canvas for some very detailed airbrush artwork and the build is likely to be the subject of a story in a UK model boating magazine and it will be seen at lots of shows. Given the size of the boat it needs to be capable of speeds suitable for its size, however, it does not need to be extreme. No need to hit 100mph.

My thoughts currently are to use the following:

    Controllers: Castle Creations ICE2 HV200
Motors: MHZ Scorpion HK-5035/760 or Leopard 5692/2Y or Castle 2028
Props: Octura X457 or maybe X460 or possible something from Prop Shop in the UK as I live near them.

Any words of wisdom on drives, etc, would be gratefully received. And before someone asks, yes I am experienced in running fast boats, both IC and electric and have good electronics knowledge.

I appreciate any input and thank you in advance.

Hello Steve and welcome to OSE,

The large cats often require a decent amount of power to reach respectable speeds. The power systems you suggested are reasonable, but one missing piece of the puzzle are the batteries. Are you limited in how many cells or how many parallel sets you can run? Any minimum run time you need?

For a cat this size one 10S 5000mAh pack per motor is probably the minimum for say 70mph speeds reliably with decent run time.

Props should not be difficult to source from either Prop Shop or Octura in counter rotating sets.

I would suggest the MHZ hardware or look at Modellbaupirate: http://mbp-rc.de/Modellbaupirat Their click drives are probably the best hardware I have seen beyond one off's.

Do you need "bling" factor on the inside or just something that runs?

      Hi Tyler,

Many thanks for your quick reply and welcome.

I was reasoning on using 10S 5000mAh per motor (which I presume will need to be two 5S packs in series as I can't see anyone offering 10S packs). i.e this will be 4 x 5S
      packs in total.

I will have a look at Modellbaupirat to see what they offer.

Yes it does need to have a good level of "bling" on the inside because it will be seen at a lot of shows and people who know me will expect nothing less !!!!

      Cheers

      Steve

You've got a lot of options. I would run swordfish 300 or etti 220 escs. Wouldn't run castle.

I wouldn't run the mhz drives instead you can get yourself the click drives by mbp for 1/4 flex stepped down to 3/16 shaft. If you run a 2028 motor on 10s she won't be very quick. Not enough rpm sure you can prop up but these boats don't run well with big props. They're twitchier because the big blades have quite the effect on the hull when its riding especially if you get some air time. Also with big props you can have larger amp spikes I used to run big props now smaller and higher kv motors. I run a mystic 138 btw.f I would run the tp power motor near the 800kv range the 5850 is capable of more rpm so if you ran 12s 750kv expect for nice speed. The mhz 5035 is a great motor on 12s many people have run the hpr 70" boat with these motors sf240 escs.

        So motors my rec are:
mhz/scorpion 5035-Has water cooling built in
        tp power 5850 750kv/820kv
        leopard 56 110-780kv

        Drives
        mbp click drives

        props
start x457 check temps move up slowly.

        Batteries
I would never buy a 10s pack if one cell goes bad it will just be annoying as you'll have to pull it apart and work through more to replace the bad cell. Also charging will be a more difficult task as most chargers don't accomdodate to this cell count

        Motor Mounts
MBP probably makes a nice set the mhz ones are quite thin. I wasn't impressed when I received them ManuelW might be able to help on here?

        Rudder
MHZ rudders are nice and will be more than up to the task

Boat is okay, get drives, rudder & hydraulics from WD200 Modellbau. Will maybe post a build here on OSE soon, was not too pleased with the MHZ hardware to say it polite.

            regards,
            Manuel

                Hi Guys,

Its only been a couple of days since my original post and I'm very grateful for the input so far. I'm starting to lean towards using the HiFei Swordfish speed controllers,
either the Pro240HV or the Pro300HV. I have today spoken with a reliable supplier of these in the UK who has a strong understanding of what I'm trying to achieve.

The input regarding Modellbaupirat and WD200 Modelbau is very interesting. I've looked at both their web sites and the drives look very nice. Has anyone used these on a MHZ Mystic C5000 1850mm? If so which ones worked best?

nata2run ..... I am very pleased to have heard from you. I've looked at your web site and I'm very impressed with the CF parts. We will need to talk when I get a little
further on with the project as there is the possibility that the boat will carry logo's from a well known radio control manufacture and it would great to use something from
their branding in the CF work and using a colour associated with them in the inlays.

Please keep the input coming guys and many thanks.

                Cheers

                  Hi Steve,

for further infos feel free to contact me preferably via eMail. To give an idea you might check my thread here:

Its in german but we live in a modern time so either use Google Translator or just check the pictures.

At the moment I'm thinking if its worth to translate the review and also publish it here on OSE.

                  regards,
                  Manuel

You're going to get a different opinion per post. I would just email MHZ, asking them to send a quote for the hardware for the 1850mm hull and buy theirs.

Just a quick update with progress on this project. I have received some great input as a number of people have sent me PMs. Many thanks.

I will start a build blog as soon as enough parts are with me to make it worthwhile taking some photos. I will then reveal the theme of the boat and how this will translate
into the paintwork and internal detail.
