Sprint Cat?

I ran my DF Explorer 36" for the first time this season the other day, with a brand new Neu 1521/1y in it, and of course it flipped at the farthest point from shore(maybe 300 yards). Hacked up the hull a bit with the prop of my Stiletto rescue rig as I couldn't really see to line it up, hooked it and limped it back to shore.................fed up with driving it on eggshells.....

I think it's time to build a fast cat that is capable of turning now.........
Based on peoples reviews over the forum, sounds like I want a Sprint Cat, so I'd like some input from those in the know while I continue searching and studying, first 2 questions:

#1-Is this Neu 1521/1Y with Castly Hydra Ice 240lv on 6s2p Thunder power 65c/5000mah going to be a good combo?
(I was kicking myself for not getting a 1527)....From what I'm reading, fitting the packs may be an issue.....

#2-Rails or not?

Kevin which size of sprint cat? If you mean the 36" the 1527 will work. I've been building some cat's with no rails but you need to reinfoce the botton to avoid problems.Gill

You could build an avenger 36. It's just a larger mean machine (or not)

Might I also suggest some sort of kayak or something? It's nice to not have to worry about retrieving. Damn stilletto....

First off the sprintcat .40 (36") is the most capable hull I have ever run or raced I have won 4 national titles, 4 ditrict titles, and numerous races in offshore and open classes, local and throughout the country. The setup I use is a 1527/1Y on 6S, I think the 1521/1Y would work pretty well also, I am building one now as a P-Offshore with a 1521/1.5D. Secondly the Avenger is a 44" cat much bigger and wider, the new "mini" avenger is the Team Believer with a new hatch (not a mean machine either) and the TB has the same bottom as the SC .40.....U getting all this????? LOL.....That all being said I have built and run every Aeromarine Cat and like the SC 40 the best. It is a little harder to manipulate the batteries and you must have long 6S packs to go in each sponson, Yes order it without rails and reinforce the bottom, but the lower profile and less freeboard I believe makes the boat handle better than the Team Believer, but the TB is much easier to work on and to get your cells in and out.

Yes, the .40, which I believe is actually 35"......But I have a 1521, not 1527, I'm wondering if it will be enough....

1521 might be as small as you want to go,dont quote me on that, but a 1527 would be better imo. more headroom. im sure you could get a decent amount for your 1521 to help with the cost of the 27.

My Siletto rescue rig is actually great(see video), I have brought my Sniper 45" back in from a ways out with no problem even.
I would not be running nearly as much if I had to lug around a kayak......
The problem was that I was so far away I could barely see to line the forks of the rescue up, and I ended up driving right over the (upside down) cat and hooking the rudder with the rear of the rig and dragging it back like that. I'm just sick of chasing that boat..........

i understand. the boats are much easier to line up at closer range. i like to run mine way out, so ive never had luck trying to line up the rescue rig when its out there a good ways. "shrug" to each his own.
anyways, sprintcat is an awesome boat. far better than the df

I have already come across some of your input via searches, thanks for chiming in. I may go for it, and try running the 1521 and see how it goes. I believe I also saw a post you had made suggesting no rails, which is the direction I was leaning, and I would definitely reinforce.......
Do you think I can fit a pair of Thunder power 6s 65c 5000's on the tunnel?

Yes 6S long packs will fit in there, I have the TP's and the Dinogys, go Dino cheaper and just as good if not better, I think the 1521/1Y would be fine on 6S and a smaller prop like a 445 646, Like I said I'm building one now with a 1521/1.5D on 4S power, I am convinced that NEU underrates the power of thgeir motors.

I have 4 of the reg 6s packs(not "long"), dimensions are 1.85"x2.05"x6.1"long, I am concerned that these may not fit under the hatch from what I've read. I really don't want to be buying more packs.........

I do like the Dinogy packs so far, but the (2) 3s hardcases I got for my car are rated 5400mah, and I have yet to see them take much more than 5000mah back after a full run to lvc.........but I only have 5 cycles on the charger and 6 in the car.

if you get the classic cowl and turn it backwards it will fit on the tunnel no problem, TJcast runs his like that, It actually looks pretty cool almost like a mustang fastback or 66 charger!!!

Been doing some homework. Thinking of getting one, with the classic hatch on backwards(I dig that look), and no rails.
As far as COG with the packs behind the motor, it sounds like my packs are heavier than what most people were using, so...........
Is there anything stopping me from just mounting the motor a bit further forward to allow a bit more room for shifting the packs forward?
