    HPR 06 help

So I final finished building my HPR.... and lemme just say beautiful hull and hardware, thanks to Manuel W. and Mr. Rotschi himself for getting me this Beast of a boat!! So I have all the HPR drives and hardware and steering etc., My steering is a little sloppy at low speeds, how do I tighten it up??

Hey bud, may help to share pics of your steering setup.

my bad, ill attach a couple pics.... basically it's the cable through the hull to the servo, and it gets a little slip at low speeds, ie drifts to the left or right... depending on which way I was just turning

What your experiencing is typical of cats. If one sponson wets more than the other the added drag on one will cause the boat to veer.

One thing I do see is a lot more drive cable exposed beyond the stuffing tube than I could sleep with.

believe me the drive cables are good.... almost perfectly lined up... and they do sound soooo quiet. I do have other CATs... king of shaves and a geico.... so I would recognize the drag if that was it, it's more like the slack in the cable allows the rudder to sit right or left instead of coming back center.... just a little bit

Ok then, sounds like you have it all figured out. Maybe I will try tightning my steering cables on my 137mph HPR 135
              Good luck

Steering cables - same hardware as you except on the servo arm end I have swivel type turnbuckle, end of day not different than yours. HPR hulls have a lot of dihedral in their sponsons. So when you are off or almost plane one or the other sponson will sink and cause the boat to pull one way than the next. This is normal and in time you will anticipate it and it will feel like riding a bike.

Drive cable - I would suggest running the stuffing tube to .250" from the collet. This has nothing to do with steering, just no need to allow the cable the opportunity to oval the end of the tube if their is any whip getting on off the throttle.

ahhhhh gotcha, so no matter how stiff or right I get the cables, I'm still gonna get the "lean and turn" out of it..... well I can live with it just thought I could fix it.... my nature. As far as the drive cables go ill get on that.. thanks for the help and advice

I had the same thing happening, and don't like that much about HPR's! good thing is you can almost eliminate that behaviour. "Step on it" from the start and get her on plane quick, then don't run under 30mph or you will be right back to the left/right funny steering.

@ Brian Neal, congrats on the achievement!!! Dude that's scary fast.

really, would solid steering rods even do it?

Umm I don't think it will, my light one has solid rods. Handles better but is also like 5 lbs lighter! Just keep telling yourself that these are made for going fast and better in straights. Trying to go slow is just pointless.

or build them with ligher setups. My HPR06 is pretty straight 11pounds RTR with 2x 5S 5000mAh cells and handles really decent.

Keith is at the moment running a MHZ 114 with a heavy SAW setup and told me there is hardly any handling at all below 30mph which did wonder me as normally they are known for excellent cornering. So weight is an issue.

                            regards,
                            Manuel

Spot on target here, get on it hard and bring it on plane quick. Also, be sure the pull cables are very tight, and for SAW type runs you might want to adjust the rudder throw on your radio so it has a very soft response.

                              Good luck
