    ESC Advice

So after a couple of mishaps i need to replace 2 ESCS. My setups are

    Delta force pirate
    Leopard 4082 1600kv
    M447 prop
    6S

    HK Osprey
    Castle 1717/1y 1580kv
    X450 prop
    6S

Up until now i have been running T-180's but have been considering a Swordfish 200A pro+ data logging. If it was your choice which would you run?

I like the swordfish but there was a thread just recently and people were saying the data logging wasnt accurate on SF. Maybe try and find it and have a read.

im not to worried about the data logging, if it works/is accurate is a bonus, am more worried about if it will stand up under the pressure i put them through as the T-180 has a higher burst capacity

I run 2 in my zonda cat with 4082 2180kv motors on 5s but only a 43mm prop and they run great and never hot, get around 96km/h, not really pushing it though. have another in a spartan with 4074 1650kv 6s and 45mm prop same deal runs cool, but i dont think i push these as much as you are.

Mate I race basically the same setup. Osprey with a 1717 and t180 on 6s and 38" seaducer with 1717 on 6s both use x450 props and come in cool. You need to look at the rest of your set up before getting some new esc's. You dont want to pop a more expensive esc.

What batteries are you using and what is the cog of both boats.

Hey Andrew, i dont think it was a setup issue that killed the esc's, i had an accidental short when connecting packs and smoked one esc and the other happened when i hit a duck at 100% throttle and got ALOT of water in the hull.

Here's my hand after the short....

If it wasn't set up do you want to spend the extra to go to SF if the T-180 were working fine?

Nasty burn mate look after yourself ok. I would stick with the t180 in the pirate and go to a sf300 in the osprey. It would be about the same cost as 240amp units.

Then try a few different props to find the sweetspot. Do you have safety loops in the boat. They work well in that you can power up with the lid on.

I was just thinking of trying something different in the setup, having access to the usb link and heifei software already i was just thinking i might have a play just to see what it is doing (if it works alright) and the extra constant rating may have allowed me to prop up a little.

Andrew, it was a bit of a bad burn, but i heal quickly and there was no scar so all good ;-) Dont have a safety loop installed yet, i have been thinking about putting one in and this has pushed me closer to making one. When we do a rescue we dont take the boat from the water we tow it along side the rescue boat so havnt needed the loops yet.

At the moment i have limited funds so need to get one ESC to run both boats, when cash is a bit more available i will be getting the SF300A for the osprey and running this esc in the pirate.

Especially when its not just the boats, its the cars, planes, quads and heli's that need a bit of money thrown at them

After smoking and killing various "name brand" ESCs due to them either being allergic to H2O or not being any where near their advertised "ratings" I have yet to kill a Swordfish.
I have one I dead-shorted the output leads at full throttle due to crappy insulation techniques (my bad) but it still works!

With Neu 1521 1y x447 3 blade hydra ice 240 my peak draw on data log was 170amps on 6s
