Do you have to use the old am transmitters and recievers in these or can you use something else?

The CF will sometimes interfere with receivers that do not have an antenna, like some 2.4 ghz system, so I always use one with antennae like those made by Spektrum, either the MR200 or MR3000 would work great. These have TWO antennae and only one needs to come out vertically like in the old days. I have recently used a FLYSKY radio, their receivers have a short antenna and I pulled it out and it is working great. I used this on my CF Tenshock Micro Hydro I bought here @ the Forum. The only radio I did not bother to even try is the Tactic which has no protruding antenna whatsoever.

I can not stress the importance of good radio equipment enough.
Flysky and other 40$ radios are not reliable, feel "cheap" and have long latency.

Invest in a great 2.4 radio like the ones we have at Airtronics and your experience will be greatly enhanced.
Our radios work great in carbon boats and indeed you will need to have the antenna exit the hull.

I use futaba fasst radios exclusively and don't run an external antenna, all antennas are inside the hull includuing my all CF hulls and had NEVER had an issue.
        We call ourselves the "Q"

I agree with both of you. I did not want to use that Flysky , it was more of an experiment/ curiosity for me, I use Airtronics in my CF Tenshok Starship Outrigger, but didn't want to pull out the receiver , so i used a Flysky that I have. However, there are people who will only use Flysky and I am not here to stir the pot, just want to say that it did work. Now, if you are racing, you might notice the difference in latency and ect, ect. There was no lost of signal either. I just want to give a factual report on MY EXPERIENCE!
