    55" Dumas Scarab build

I'm fairly new to building fast electric boats and I have a question for the experts out there...I recently got a 55" Dumas Scarab with a vintage Graupner Antreib M1984 outdrive on it. After some research I found the outdrive was the predecessor of the Graupner 820 series, but it's built like a tank. I took it apart, and it has heavy duty hardened gears with 8 mm shafts, full bearings, and the outdrive is rated (by Graupner) for 1.5 kW electric or 25 cc gas. It has a fiberglass 65mm 2 blade prop on it, pitch appears radical, but unknown.

    Now for the questions:
Since this is a big boat (and I want some wow factor), would a Leopard 4074 (at 2.6 kW) be within reason? If not, what would be appropriate?
Also, what prop would you suggest?

    Thanks for any help!

for a 55' boat a 4074 is way too small. buy a castle 2028 or leo 56mm motor

There is a member on here make-a-wake he built this boat too. He is using a leopard 5692 1000kv motor

There it is. I say run the outdrive till it blows up then convert and use something else

Hears the modding thread he did,
But his outdrive spun a gear or bearing went out on it.

Thanks for the help. I'll post build pictures when I get all my parts together. I'm hoping the Graupner outdrive's gears hold up. I'm already planning to replacing the bearings even though the unit has never seen water.
