    Generator which one to buy?

I am about to the point that I need to buy a new generator. I bought a cheapie from Harbor Freight. It cost me a whole $80. It works fine for the price. It's a 850 W generator. It puts out 120 V @ 6 amps. It's noisier than a Honda is. I have to mix the gas.

I really want to upgrade. I probably could get by with a 1000W generator, but a 2000W would really be nice. I really like the Honda. A lot of guys have them. Yamaha makes a nice one. I know that Kawasaki also makes generators. What would you guys recommend?

Ditto on my Yamaha 1000. Quiet, reliable and easy on gas. I bought it to use when I am anchored out overnight on my big boat but use it consistently with the RC boats. If I were to do it again I would buy the 2000 watt model instead because of my hydro demands on the express crusier.

Invest in quality. The honda EU2000 is the benchmark unit hands down. The Yamaha is a close second.

Agreed....7 years and running strong. Super quiet which doesn't annoy the neighbors. I just bought the companion one for some extra power for the trailer. Lights, Heat/AC, Refrigerator etc.

              Hey Jay,

I would agree with some of the others... I broke down and bought the Honda EU2000 unit. It was only $200 more than the 1000 unit. While the 2000 is bigger and close to 45lbs, it’s “twice” the generator than the 1000 unit. THAT was a tough purchase though, they are not cheap! Keep in mind the re-sale value too. You would be amazed what people are paying for used Honda genies. THAT’S why I bought new!

              Later,
              Mike

I agree 100% with above posts, Honda. They might be a little more expensive but they are reliable. I've let them sit all winter without storing and they start right up. (Big and small, use them for work) Cand beat a Honda engine. About three years ago I bought the eu2000 for some remote work requiring some electrical and its quiet, reliable, portable, would be my first choice if I need one for taking to the races.

I'd have to disagree with the Yamaha being second. Our meet higher standards in every category and are quieter. Also I know a guy that can get great deals on the yamahas for ose members. Check them out on the Yamaha website.
