Genesis RC Boat ESC Recommendations....

I am looking to get a Genesis RC Boat and was looking to run a 120A water cooled ESC (If it helps, I am planning on running a single 3S with the stock motor).

I am having a problem deciding what to buy. I like the castle creations ESC, but they are out of my budget range.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a good, affordable ESC meeting the specs above?

Seaking 120 works well. Keep on mind that a genesis on 3s is going to be very slow.

Yes,I know it will be slow, I planned it that way.

What would you recommend battery wise? I don't want to go fast right out of the box until I get used to the handling..start slow and work my way up sort of thing :)

If I were you I would go with the seaking 180 right off the bat. This way you will not need to upgrade your esc when you decide it is time to go faster. As far as battery choice you should go with some HK Turnigy Packs with a minimum of 40c discharge. If you buy some 4s packs you can parallel them and increase your prop size considerably to increase the speed as you become more comfortable with the boat. I dont think you can run just one battery in the genesis as they sit down inside the sponsons and if you only used one battery the boat would list horribly to one side. You can achieve some decent speeds with the stock motor and driveline and if you are satisfied with the limits of the stock motor you can have the whole setup for around $500 including batteries. I ran my stock motor on 6s for a while and it is still alive and in another model right now.

I wonder if I could run it on 2 2S packs in parallel? Then once I get comfortable go to 2 3S packs and so forth...would that work?

You could certianly run two 2s packs in parallel. If they are of high enough discharge rating you could run them in series as long as you monitor the battery temps. This will also save you some $!

I ran the stock Genesis motor on 4S and it was fine.
I used it for probably 20 runs id say before i switched it out.
4S 4000MAH packs fit in each side of the genesis easily

Ive just been through all this. The T180 is the go for the $$, for sure!
2 x 2s2p 5000mAh 40c (higher C rating the better) and a 40mmm 1.4P prop and it will run 40mph all day and love it.
I had mine on the water with packs and charger for about $500AUD
Great toy, well worth the $$.
