Toledo Show April 5-7 Toledo, Ohio

Anyone else going? I see TFL Hobby is going to be there as well as Zipp kits (were gonna have a chat Mr Walker), Hobby Partz, Aquacraft (I will say hi yet again Grim Racer!), Castle, Micro Fasteners, Boca Bearing, Eagle Tree and Haoye Limited (lots of parts/pieces/decals for CHEAP- and HOT girls). Im sure Hitec will have multiple booths setup selling servos again.

I know Brian the Budman will be with me- I intend to go Saturday morning.

If anyone wants to meet up and hit up a good restaurant downtown let me know. I worked downtown for some time and know most of the good places.

If there is a bus load going from Canada I might make it on there. Haven't heard yet from Flightcraft Hobbies if there was enough interest...

I'll give it some thought. It's only a 45 minute drive away.

I haven't been to the Toledo Show in a long time. For the first couple of years that I went, I bought nothing. What a sight to see. If you haven't ever been, you need to go. I have a strong urge to go this year. If I go it will be on Friday.

There will be at least a half dozen MMEUligans there. Fred, Tom, Ty, and I are going Friday afternoon. We plan to hit the indoor fly Friday evening too.

They've been doing it for years Howard. It's off site at a school gymnasium. Look on their website. It's on there somewhere.

Even if you don't fly the display of skill is awesome. These guys fly planes to music like a dance recital. It's really impressive. Goes on for hours.

                      This reminds me.

Do any of you think you would be more likely to participate/enter into the model competition if there were an actual RC race boat division? In the past it's always been "competition hull". That's the only class you can enter say and sport hydro. So you compete against an all wood rendition of an early 50's Garwood with a 1/4" of poly on it, custom fab'd fittings that are chrome plated, etc. Still RC and absolutely awesome stuff but a different type of modeling. "Looks good, now lets see it hang a pin at 55 mph." See what I mean? RC race boats are just a different animal. Competing against "models" is not quite right. Your chances of winning are nil. We've seen some fantastic scale boats but even a scale Unlimited will fail if it's truly set up for racing with it's gigantic rudder, silicone tubing, and 4" wide turn fin.

I've been in contact with the organizers of Weak Signals in this regard. I would like to ask them to change/add the format but after giving it more thought I'm not sure we "race boat" builder types could field enough boats consistently to make it worth doing. To ask and then not show up would make us look like a bunch of buffoons.

Does anyone think they would be up for this? Not, do you think someone else would show. Maybe I should inquire on IW too.

I would put my NEU powered JAE in it when its fully done.

Competition Hull/Boat is supposed to be for our "race" boats. The other mahogany type race boats should be in "Scale" or Competition scale. I think the inconsistency has more to do with lack of knowledge of the organizers (regarding boats) and in some cases the model owners not correctly understanding the difference in categories.

                          Later,
                          Mike

They have 4 categories for boats.
                            Military Scale Boat
                            Pleasure Boat
                            Competition Boat
                            Working Vessel Unarmed

Then there's "Non Military Sport Scale" Not sure what that is. Planes I suspect.

Easy to see how an old mahogany racer ends up in "Competition". I think it be's what it is. Not much excitement about the idea. I'll leave it be. Besides......don't I always sat it's not ALL about the W?

Maybe I'll build a nice scale mahogany race boat just to prove to myself that I can do it. Then I'll race it and pile drive it into a buoy.

Mike, I thought about entering the Thomas I sent you pictures of last night but it's not really at the level I feel is worthy of a trip to Toledo.
