    8s cats whats out there

    Guys

yes I am alive I have been kicking the idea of building a 8s cat this year and was wonding what hulls were out there that would be good for this

this is what i was thinking

1 it will be used for racing
    2 motor I was thinking about will be a neu 1530 1y 1100 kv
    3 speedo will be a ice 240 or a 200

    so have at it

just please keep in mind that the boat will be used for open cat sprint and open offshore races

Mike P just wanted to let you know that your q will be done for the cup just got the turn fin last week

Wait till you see mine. AC R42. 2230 725kv. Fighter Cat 300. 10S 10K mah.

Just waiting on a new offshore top to put that baby in the water.

Not a lot of choice out there for anything smaller.

My R-42 is a winner too, handles a lot better than my old Stryker did - but I'm running 10S. The Castle 2028 (real cheap right now) on 8S can swing gas-sized props a bit faster than gas motors can and is proven to be competitive. I'd choose that motor over any 1500 series motor - due to cost if nothing else. These hulls were designed for gas-sized props and arguably work best with them especially in rough race water.

Another good hull would be the Aeromarine Conquest with the Avenger Pro hatch. An easy FE conversion and proven performance against gas boats. Others like the Insane and Seaducer require more work in fabbing a hatch.

Here's a photo of my latest R-42 before decoration. I need to get an updated photo and maybe a build....Neu 2215/2Y, 40-160, 10S1P/6500 mAh. Plenty fast. It would work great with a Castle 2028 and 8S too.

This is my second R-42, the first was right after they came out. It had the opem gas hatch - tough to seal. I eventually sold it to another club member who converted it to gas - and won a lot of races with it.

Love it. Guys in my club run Gas in theirs and they run great. (I am doing a gas version too) I had never heard of an FE one though. What kind of speeds are you getting?

Initial trials were with props for 60 mph, but I have gotten more aggressive and can get 65 easy, probably a lot more. The problem here is the water we race on is usually rough and the wind is high, so high speeds usually mean a blow over.

I am not sure if 6500 mAh will work for Offshore, I have not tried that course with less than 9000 mAh in the old Stryker and can't remember how much I used. On the oval I normally use around 4000-4500 mAh for 6 laps plus mills, the Offshore course may be too long for 6500 mAh cells. This boat is pretty light at ~17 pounds (closer to what gassers weigh) versus my old Stryker at 21#. I chose components to reduce weight in this build versus the big Lehner and 9000 mAh packs in the Stryker, which had a thick heavy hull as well. I really like the lower weight of the R-42, but boat set-up is a bit more critical if you want to finish the heat. Of course I blew the Stryker over more than once too.....

                  Jay,

Can you be more specific about a "GAS" size prop for the 2028?

Fred, sorry didn't mean to sidetrack your post.

Fred, isn't there a blast cat on the shelf at Larry's? Red n' white. In my head it's there.

Gas-sized props would be from 65-75mm in diameter with pitch between 4 and 5 inches. The boat type, race conditions/type and cell quality/capacity will determine what works best, but you will need plenty of pitch to exceed 55 mph. Expect rpm to be around 20-21,000 rpm loaded, higher than any gas engine.

That capacity use calculates out to around 140 amps average, on good 10S packs that's a motor output around 6 hp. On 8S the amps would be greater. Still power that's plenty comparable to gas engines without having to wait on the pipe...

The BlastCat is a bit different. It has huge ramps in the front of the tunnel to block air, keeping the boat kinda glued to the water. It works great in really rough conditions and I have seen one win several gas races against much faster boats - because it always finished (and not always last place either).

There was a red and white boat there a few weeks ago, sure looked like that hull.

That thing has been on the shelf for ages. Like since the move to M59.

I've seen one run too. Kens borther had one for a while. Ran like Jay described. Kinda glued. I never looked in the tunnel. Now I see why they run so stuck. I don't think you would like it Fred. You tend to fly your boats.

yes I do like to fly them thanks for all the info guys.

Jay great looking boat I did get to see one this week in order to race I think it may be a little big of 8s and still be easy on the motor and speedo but like you set it up with 10s I think it would be great

As for the one at larry's it is a blast 40 but it is not just the hull its a gas motor in it all set up

Mike I will call you Monday LOL I should of just got it from you when you were here last summer when you offered it to me
