    unsure....

I will be running a 4074 leopard motor which is rated for 90amp 2200kv.Couple of ?,can the esc be higher than 90Amp continuous. This is for a 30"mono deep vee. and what size of batteries can I use with no problems.Using bullet connectors,(5.0)
max volts 27,max watts 2600,max rpm 60k.With a 60k limit on the motor, what is the safest rpm to have?
Trying to get it ready for next month,as long as the snow is gone. Thanks in advance.

That is a 4S (14.8 volt) motor. The higher the amp rating on the ESC the better, you will want a minimum of 120 amps and 180 amps is better. The "90 amp rating" is ignored by most FE boaters, the motors will draw as many amps as you load it for - I've pulled over 300 amps on a 'similar' motor (for a second!). You will want a minimum of 4S1P/5000mAh/40C packs. Two in parallel (same voltage, twice the capacity/runtime) will be better for most uses unless you go 4S1P/6500mAH packs, then you can just run one.

Are you sure you have the correct spec numbers for the 4074,as the 4074 2200kv is rated at 120a & 23v. The 3674 2200kv is rated at 90a & 27v, either way as Fluid says stick with 4s for a safe set up.

^ What Fluid said. In a 30" hull def onlya 4s motor I would get a turnigy 180 esc. Nice robust cheap esc it will take a beating just don't get it wet they really don't like water.

Thanks alot guys, the responses clear the air for me,I now know what to do and what not. Those specs I entered were wrong,my mistake.Did not have glasses on.Blind as a bat.....!So I have to decide whether to use 120amp or 180amp.What other brands of esc are available, and good ones,do not trust the cheap ones.My pop always told me,"ya get what you paid for".I have been looking at the etti"s esc,any views on that one?

I know some on this forum have used a 120a esc with this motor but for not very much more money around $18 more you can get a 180a which would be my choice between those 2 esc for much more head room.

              The turnigy/seaking 180

              http://hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store..._Boat_ESC.html

I have owned 5 of them and they work very well I never really hear about issues with them. I can't comment on the etti esc I'm sure its great as those guys really seem to know what they're doing I just know for a fact the seaking can handle your demands. Swordfish makes a nice esc too they're in the store we have here on the forum too.

the 180 esc has worked well for me over the years. no complaints. i mean, lets face it, you dont have a top of the line motor there…. if you went by "My pop always told me,"ya get what you paid for", you would have bought a neu motor or similar.
the 120 would probably handle the motor you have but its at its limit. if you wanted to upgrade from that motor down the road you would need to buy the 180,so why not just go for the headroom of the 180
