Actuated trim tabs

I was thinking of a use for my 3rd radio channel. I typically use it for switching lights on and off, but I was considering using it for something more useful like trimming the boat whilst running. I was going to use the 3rd channel of my receiver to control a small servo to adjust the trim tabs.

Has anyone ever used servo actuated trim tabs on a FE boat?

I was proposing to use them on my Impulse 31”.

Don't bother, been tried to death, along with the good old power trim on an outboard.
If it worked or at least worked well people would be using it.
Seen some ingenious but pointless setups, one cool one used 360 rotating servos and jack screws. Looked impressive at least! Very nicely made.
I'm almost positive I remember at least one company marketing the idea back in the 80's, never seen a commercial setup since.

A few years ago a club member built a 10S drag mono, but on WOT takeoffs the bow pointed way high. He set up the third channel to move the full-transom-width trim plates from slightly down (to keep the bow planted on takeoff) to flat for running the straightaway. It was just one push - two alternating positions. It worked very well because it was very simple to use.

I was thinking about this the other day, has a low transit servo been paired with a gyro to actuate tabs?

I thought with this kind of automated adjustability it could prove useful, if tuned correctly.

Assuming the area were sufficient, I dont see why it wouldn't work.
Every application I have added to existing hulls in full size application has made a profound effect.
Does this not translate well to scaled down hulls?

Trim tabs on these boats are tricky we just don't raise or lower them we bend the tips (inner or outer), make one side of the trim tab higher than the other, some times have 2 sets on each side adjusted to different heights, and left and right side adjusted differently, and just a mm of adjustment is a lot.

A gyro actuated canard would be cool on some tunnels. As far as tabs go I agree with above comments. But if you have the time and idea, put it to the test. (And post up results- I think it would be interesting). :)

Hi there,
A guy with a twin inline zenoah mono that gets taken down to the lake has the 3rd channel for trim tabs.
the boat is probably 1.5M long, and heavy.
On somthing that big and heavy, adjustable trim tabs might be needed, as it goes over 120kmph,
Personally, I wouldnt bother, its just adding more equipment that could break, more holes in the back of the hull etc

It is possible to have have actuated (radio control) trim tabs,
My friend is making them for many, many years. I will convince him to list them on ebay this week.
Then I will comeback with the link.
As opposite with the video above where you need to be an octupus to control the trim tabs and drive in the same time, in our case the trim tabs are mixed with the rudder.
For example when you turn right the right tab is raising and the left one is lowering.The cornering is a lot faster and precise.
Also (if is a shallow deep V) you can have another individual trim tab on the middle that will adjust the ridding attitude.
