    New to catamarans

I am a proficient modeler building wooden rc models, schooners, sailboats, planes, mahogany classics and also have a few RTR deep v's.

I really enjoy building and I'm interested in building my 1st fast cat. Any suggestions on kits?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Keith has them available on his site. Really nice hull for the money and has the potential for a lot of speed.

Paul, Before we recommend a hull. We need to know what size boat you are interested in. Also the scale looking offshore boats look cool but many don't turn well. I don't know if there any wooden kits available for Cat Hulls. I think most are scratch built. Most of us use pre-made fiberglass hulls

                  Thanks to all who responded.

Chilli, I have done a little homework on cats and have found your comments about scale boats elsewhere. As for wooden kits, I haven't found any for cats. The reference to wood kits was there merely as an FYI.

I understand many of the cats and hydro's are fiberglass or composite hulls. I would like to build one vs. buying a RTR out of the box.

As for size, again I'm new to cats and hydro's, what I've found in my limited exposure is something in the 30 to 40 in range are a good combo for speed and handling.

                  Any advice would be useful.

I also see cats with single and twin engine, any pros cons either way, just looking to get educated. I'm an advanced modeler and not opposed to paying for quality as at the end of the day, going cheap always leads o spending more.

                  Thanks again for your help.

                  Paul

Sounds good Paul. Since you are experienced with wood, I didnt know if you preferred a wood build. I have seen a few scratch built cats here and I'm sure someone out there has some plans if that's your thing. I'm not anywhere good enough for that endeavor. Mid 30's is an excellant size boat. Big enough to handle choppy water and small enough where you have power options that wont break the bank. For good looking cats that can turn. You cant beat the Cheetah for the price. I also really like the new Aeromarine Team Believer with the Avenger Hatch. It's a bit more expensive but IMO built better.. Both hulls are just over 34 inches. The Aeromarine boat is a proven performer. The Cheetah is newer but seems to be a good performer. Twins are for bling. Not really needed but cool looking. I also like the added adjustability of a single strut over twin stingers. 6S is you're best bet for power but 4S will probably do. You have plenty of room in both boats for either set up. You'll have less amp draw with the 6S set up so things will run cooler. Hopefully this will get you started. Do some searches on the Cheetah and on the Sprintcat (same bottom as Team Believer). You'll find some builds on both hulls.

Thanks Chili. I checked out Bradley's website, not a lot of info there, but the hulls look like what I'm after. I appreciate the info.

Looks like his web page is undergoing a facelift.

Tito, you will find a lot of builds on here. Keith documented a couple of his builds on here. He does an amazing job with his builds. Properchopper has also and his builds are great also. Lots of good info on this site under the build section just need a couple of afternoons to read thru it all!

For me twins are the way to go! The sound of them at full throttle is amazing and the rooster tails ......

Another guy that has tons of knowledge Is "Fluid", I followed his advice on a Mean Machine build and the thing flat flys on the water!
