What are the issues, keywords, factors notable considerations I should be searching for to properly setup a boat like this? Anything new people seem to miss when getting a boat like this?
I have been wanting to get a RC boat for quite some time, specifically a cat like the Apparition or Genesis, but just have not taken the plunge. It seems like the Apparition is more scaled to standard components? Are there other hulls to consider similar to the Apparition for someone that just wants to causally use it?
Very Familiar with professional grade land and air models, but only ever had one boat.
Hoping for some BIG help
What are the popular forums for detailed informative RC Boat information?
Anywhere in the Portland Oregon area that I can talk to real enthusiast and see there setups? Any local Racing or gatherings coming up?
Are there any brick and mortar stores in the Portland Oregon area that carry RC boats and boat parts?
Any notable informative threads that outline the issues with this boat? Specifically what to do about the non counter rotating shafts and props. Floatation solutions, carbon kevlar keel reinforcement proper weighting, powering, mods, suggestions ect specifically for this hull?
What is a average good setup with this boat?
Ideally I would like to use some of the existing components I have.
Would it be OK to use some 1S 35-40C 6000mah hard case Lipos for batteries?
I have six of these, which I hope will be helpful, was thinking 2 sets of 3S, and charge off the support vehicles battery, and backup battery.
The helpful factors I have working in my favor are:
I have great locations to use the boat.
I have a jetski to recover the vehicle if ever need be.
I can do mill/lathe fabrication and fiber work, so any good mods repairs and reinforcements are no problem.
What is a good starting point for setup that will maximize fun factor?
I would love some solid advice on ESC, as it seems some get by just fine on the cheap units, while others are struggling on better units.
Will knowing the water surface conditions be helpful to know when recommending a setup? Right now I would like to sacrifice top speed for duration of use, but would like to set the boat up for respectable speeds if deemed necessary later.
I have many different conditions to use a boat like this from secluded mile long glassy lakes to rivers/channels with near glassy conditions.
The primary use I am getting this for ATM is sitting on the beach on a usually fairly smooth river, with the infrequent boat traffic wake.
But I am planning on visiting the lakes, dropping anchor in the middle, and driving the boat as fast as I can around impromptu courses.
I have friends that have interest to get identical boats, so any help will translate to others directly.
TIA
