Is there a way to convert a .187 3/16 cable drive with a 8mm motor end over to a strong wire drive for a SAW Hydro boat. All the ones I have seen seam to be for smaller boats. My hull is a PT 45 with a 1530 motor.

Gary,
Yes you can, but do you have a very gradual bend in your existing stuffing tube? For a 1530 you are going to need .098 or larger wire. Jeff Wholt can machine you a set screw type coupler for the motor end and then you need 3/16" stub shafts reamed to the wire diameter and either loctited or soldered in place.
One challenge I have found is locating wire longer than 12" in the US that is straight. You will also want to support the wire in Teflon or brass tubing all the way in the stuffing tube so when it hits a reasonance the deflection is contained tightly by the wall of the tube.
I have ordered 2mm wire 500mm long from Germany for my Q,S & T SAW riggers which I plan on running here end of the month.
For your motor you might have to look for 3mm or .125" wire which may be very stiff and actually be worse than a good flex cable.
