Because there are good motors and not so good motors,
Depending on what you are trying to do with them.

      So I ask you again.

And how fast do you think you want the boat to go and how long at that speed ?
What are your planes for this boat, Racing or sport running ?
6S is the max volts and with low amp setup on 6s but a high amp setup 5s tops on them.
You could use the 130a high volt esc with burst current of 180a instead and that will do 5s to 12s setups.

      Why do you ask?

I say that because I want to learn.

I want to go 55-60mph. I want to do sport running. I want to go up and down a pond in a building complex that is a little over 1/8 mile. As far as stamina... I just want to make a few passes... Not extended periods of time

Thank you, what am i looking for in that thread? I get the concept that the higher the cell the lower the KV.

            I like the vids BTW.

What KV motor would you reccomend as my genesis is going to be 5s (40C) on a 160/200burst Turnigy 160a ESC..... also, running a x640 prop. and .187 flex drive and OSE .187 strut?

I want to go 55-60 MPH

The boat in the video is a sport running setup, Neu 1515 1y 2200kv seaking 180a esc 187 flex shaft x442 prop on 4s,
Is that about the speed your looking for ?

This motor is in my buddy gecio and running on 6s but with a seaking 130a hv esc,
He said it is a nice motor and a great price to. http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._Inrunner.html

              What do you think,
But you could just run it on 5s and have some head room.

I feel like the boat in the video is doing what I perceive as 45mph. Am I right? It seems like many other 4S propped boats an I think I want to go about 20-30% faster than that. I say that because my buddy has a 4s motley crew with a prop and it went 46mph. Yours looks identical in terms off acceleration.

With your given info you won't be able to go more than a 2500 watt motor. 1515 Neu being the best bet. 2500 divided by 18.5v will pull at least 135 amps and youll spike over 200 easy with a stiff prop and put you maybe into low 50's without blowing your ESC. To get to 55-60 mph you will need at least a 1520/3500w motor and just smoke your 160/200ESC.
As for motor KV rating on 5S you want from 1500 - 2200. That gives a unloaded rpm range from 28000-41000. All doable if you match the proper pitch and diameter prop and that can only be done by setup work, some trial and error till you find the combination. On 5S I would narrow to 1600-1900KV's which will narrow your prop selection. Easier to buy props than multiple motors. Or just get the previous owners method of measuring 58mph and be happy there.
