    Info for bigger build

Im thinking about building a bigger boat. Looking at the sniper 45.
Id like to get some opinions on set up.
Im not looking for crazy speed but something I can run on bigger waters safely.
Here what im thinking, since i run everything on 4s and have a ton of 4s batts, I would like to build the boat to run 8s using two 4s in series which leads me to believe a big can 1100kv motor would work well.
Question is what esc would work and what range prop size should I start out with?
If any of the pros see any inherent problems with the setup please speak up.
    Thanks

Honestly if you plan on running in open water for sport running there are better hulls like the Hurricane and Rico offshore. The Sniper is good, but prone to dunking in heavy seas at good speeds.

8S2P will work fine although 1100kv is too much Kv. Look lower around 700 to 900kv for a sport boat. A motor like the Castle 2028 or Leopard 5292 or Proteous are good examples.

ESC's vary greatly for the money. Look at Castle Hydra ICE's or Swordfish HV's for moderate priced systems or you can look at Schulzes, YGE's, Kontroniks, MGM's for higher end systems.

Prop will depend on motor, but for a ~750kv motor on 8S look at 60mm to start out with. An X460 or X462 Octura would be a good place to safely start for a sport boat.

Tyler, thanks for responding. I was just reading your posts on kevins sniper build.
Im a fan of the castle stuff so I would probably go that direction for power. Im not familiar with the hurricane hull and have never seen a rico in person but have heard they are nice. I like the df hulls but i sure dont need another boat that stuffs. Who handles the hurricane and rico hulls in the size range im looking for?
Also, on my smaller builds running 4s2p ive always kept the rpm's around the 30-35k range and have not had any issues, thats why I had thought the 1100kv motor would work. Does this not hold true as you start going bigger?

With the larger frame motors and in larger boats you want to run props closer to gas size which means 60-70mm and RPM between 18-23k RPM. The 2028 is very happy running on 8S around 20k loaded swinging a 65mm prop.

Herzog racing has the Hurrizane mono and search for Rico Racing.

If you go with the Castle, use either the ICE 240 or ICE 200HV.

May I hijack and ask Tyler a question?

Tyler, what size prop can I swing on a 40" DF style mono on 6S2P 65-130C batts and 1200KV 5692 TP motor?? I've run it on 55mm props and it is super stable but, not that fast. Using SF240 esc.

            Thanks...

Probably up to 65mm 2 blade max. You could try a X460, X462, X465, X460/3. Just check the temps after a short 1 min run.
I assume you are running 2P?

I know a guy that runs a x450/3 on his Hurricane, runs about 62 mph or 63 mph with 813 Kv motor & 10s.

                I would think a x457 would match a Castle 2028 in that hull with 9s lipo @ 60 mph.
                Or a x450/3 with 10s = 61 mph.
                Or a x646/3 with 10s = 64.9 mph.
Or andy brown can make a M746/3 (based on a x646/3) and run 72.7 mph on 10s

Thanks Tyler. That will be fun.
                  Yes, 2P Dinogy. I have a nice 459 x 3 Propshop to try out.

Cheers, back to the OP... Thanks for starting a cool topic.

SF240 will suffice. Personally I would run "The Beast," motor offered by Keith Bradley on his site. Its like $180 if memory serves me correctly, pretty sure upon closer inspection it looked like a 2028. If you'd rather go name brand go 2028 motor you won't regret. I wouldn't go with anything above SF240 in terms of capabilities, you won't need them.

I was looking at the 2028 in a 750kv which I think I would use.

Spoke to Rico today who told me that they sell a hull and hardware 48 for about $500. Sounds pretty reasonable.

I can get a hull/hardware atomik 58 for pretty cheap but have a feeling the hull isn't up to the task. Has anyone handled one?

Herzog Hurricane vs Sniper in the kicked up small alternate pond in AZ in 2008. No conclusions being drawn here, just for visuals. Don't remember what the power was in either boat. Maybe (Photo)Howard will chime in.
